Chan Gailey apparently the front runner for OC. This doesn't thrill me, but he definitely has the experience.

Oooo I like this. Bad head coach, excellent offensive mind though. Norv Turner ish.

I have to say, I honestly don't even know what Todd Bowles looks like. Does he get credit for the last 2 Arizona defenses or did he inherit them? Does he have a track record beyond that?

Seems like everyone likes this guy, but I would've never guessed at the beginning of this process this is who we'd go with.

Keeping in mind that the whole thing is incredibly inexact, I think the Jets have done a pretty good job with the search.

Bowles is a youngish guy who played in the NFL and who's paid his dues and has had as much responsibility as anyone could have without actually being a HC.

I also like the fact that he was a "hot" candidate who was on a lot of teams' short lists, so this is not a reach, a la Idzik being the last man standing after a lot of other candidates declined even an interview for the GM job.

I also like getting a GM who is a personnel guy. Unlike Bowles, MacCagnan was not on a lot of short lists, but Mehta's reports not withstanding, I liked some of the other reports I read on him.

I also like the fact that Ron Wolf ran his interview to avoid the idea that Casserly would serve him a bunch of fat pitches.

Also, if Gailey is the OC, it's probably not a bad thing to have a guy who's been around as long as he has to serve as a sounding board for a younger first-time HC.

One of the telling early signs will be what kind of a coaching staff Bowles can assemble.

According to Cimini, one of the things that cooled the Jets on Quinn was that if the Seahawks go to the Super Bowl, a lot of quality assistants will be off the board by then (I think they were also worried that if they waited for Quinn and he took another job, they'd be stuck).

You have to think a lot of the Rex guys will now join him in Buffalo, so Bowles will be looking for a lot of assistants.

If Bowles lines up a lot of respected guys, that will be a sign that he, in turn, is respected within the league.

Mostly hate on the twitter for Gailey and don't really understand it.

First off, everyone knows I love Rex, but the Jets will, under Gailey, FINALLY come into this millenium with some spread principles in the offense rather than drafting fullbacks.

And can someone rattle off for me what guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tyler Thigpen did in Buffalo under Chan? If there is ANY way to go grab Mariota now, thats now a superb fit here.

Kacy Rodgers rumored for DC. Can't say I've heard of him, but Miami's DL is a pretty good unit.

Gotta say, I really like the Bowles/Gailey pairing. Gailey has a pretty great track record as an OC. The Bills fan appear upset that he's been hired inside the division.

I'd like to see a comment in this thread from chinabox regarding Chan Gailey

Mike Francessa....

"Good luck in developing a QB with Rex Ryan and Greg Roman as OC" :)

"What can Rex possibly say to the players today who trounced his team twice this past year" LOL

He thinks Bowles will be a real good coach. Not thrilled with Chan Gailey. He doesn't really know the GM so he won't comment.

I read on another site that a friend of a friend of a Dolphin fan loves him and thinks he can be a great Defensive Coordinator. FWIW.

Sounds like Spiller has a high degree of interest in us. With CJ.8K surely gone, I like this fit with Gailey, who knows how to use CJ (that is, not in a power run game).

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see CJ Spiller and Ryan Fitzpatrick brought in this offseason. Lots of success with Gailey, not much since.
