This is a great day for the Jets

I didn't see the Titans at all or the pre-Namath Jets too much. But from my view of 1965 on, Revis is the most accomplished player in franchise history.

I guess we can thank Idzik for leaving a lot of money lying around, but MacCagnan has made some tremendous moves.

Also have to give Woody credit for not letting his ego get in the way of a Revis return, not to mention writing the checks (has the NFL ever ruled on the Pats' tampering claims, btw?)

Maybe there will be some other big moves, but the thing I'm really hoping for is some good "little" moves--things like a #5 or #6 pick who becomes a legit starter or an undrafted FA that comes in and helps.

Does anyone know if Skrine is good on special teams, or if he even plays them?

The Jets have fallen off in having really good special teams players the last few years. Not just return guys and kickers, but guys who did the dirty work.

Has to be the most exciting Mets/Jets moment since....we sealed the Johan deal?!

Amazing. And we can put to bed the nonsense that Woody forced Idzik to dump Revis, too.

Thank you Mac.

Package deal. Let's do it.

Criticism of Woody is my beta test for the theory of "fans always blame the owner." Still can't figure out what he ever did wrong but there was a lot of hate thrown his way when the team didn't win.

This should end that.

Eh we have Jalen Saunders (pick acquired for Revis) for that.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Texans are trading QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets for a late-round conditional draft pick, per a league source.

One might ask why we are trading instead of waiting for the cut, and I would imagine it has to do with the pick being basically nothing and his salary (1 yr, 3.25m) is friendly whereas on the open market in a tough QB class, he might command more (i.e., Hoyer is apparently getting "twice" what Mallet got, which is 2/$7).

Like this move a lot, when you consider the QBs available. Draft and develop a guy behind him. We can be competitive this year with Fitz.

CRO next!?

yeah I like it if Mariota won't get past 5.

Wonder what they'll do with pick - keep it for WR or OL, or trade down to add pick(s) in a draft where they don't have many.

I've seen this get suggested ("Macc is taking advantage of Idzik's work") and thats absurd to me.

First off, his biggest move is basically undoing a move that Idzik made to create that cap space. The idea that Idzik created the ability to sign Revis is only true because he dumped Revis in the first place!!

Not to mention, its not like it was a slow build to this cap space. Idzik had room to do things (like, oh, I dunno...sign Revis) last year, and chose not to. Again, not like he had the inability do what Macc is doing now.

And finally, lauding a guy presiding over a terrible team for having cap space is ridiculous. There was a huge talent void - of course there's cap space. No one on the roster is worth any money!! Have we ever showered Reggie McKenzie with praise for his "cap space" while the Raiders are consistently terrible? What a weird thing to celebrate...

idk, before gushing all over the place, I'm more dubious at the moment. I'd characterize this spending as having some whiff of desperation to it, frankly. How much would you like to wager that by 2017, we'll all be discussing how much of a cap hit they'll have to take to clear some roster spots? I'd almost prefer they found a way to extend Wilk and Richardson than spend on Revis and Cro. I mean, if either of those 2 walk a year from now it'll be a huge hit.

It just seems like a lot for Revis for what are likely his decline years. It feels like we got suckered into this. And another $5M per for a 5'9" corner?

Let's not forget that the proven winning formula (Patriots) is not to overpay players bc of any emotional ties. Get rid of players one year too early rather than hold them too long. Build by adding draft picks, not dealing them.

They haven't handed out any guaranteed money for 2017, save for the $6M to Revis. And it's way too early to extend Richardson. He still has two years left on his rookie deal, plus a fifth year option.
