Perhaps Gilchrist. He's in the building, apparently.

Mehta says they want to lock up both.

idk, before gushing all over the place, I'm more dubious at the moment. I'd characterize this spending as having some whiff of desperation to it, frankly. How much would you like to wager that by 2017, we'll all be discussing how much of a cap hit they'll have to take to clear some roster spots? I'd almost prefer they found a way to extend Wilk and Richardson than spend on Revis and Cro. I mean, if either of those 2 walk a year from now it'll be a huge hit.

It just seems like a lot for Revis for what are likely his decline years. It feels like we got suckered into this. And another $5M per for a 5'9" corner?

Let's not forget that the proven winning formula (Patriots) is not to overpay players bc of any emotional ties. Get rid of players one year too early rather than hold them too long. Build by adding draft picks, not dealing them.

The guaranteed money due Revis (nothing else is beyond year 2 on the horizon, and not big dollars, so I don't see how you could be concerned with it) is $39m over 3 years. Unless he gets hurt, he'll certainly earn that money - there's no doubt he is in line with top CBs in the league, who are paid that in salary.

I cannot operate in a world where you pass on Revis - AGAIN- because you worry he could get hurt. Get out of the game of signing football players if thats your concern.

The only thing proven by the Patriots is they've employed an all-time great QB during the time where they've "not overpaid players bc of emotional ties." Lets see how the "Patriot Way" works when Jimmy Garrapolo is their QB. Cuz I think we'll all stop thinking they're somehow geniuses for losing Darrelle Revis once they're not employing an all time great at the most important position on the field.

there is no question about Brady's status as an all time great QB, but if you think that's all the Pats are about, I think you are mis-reading things.

Willie Colon back on vet minimum to compete with 2 of Idzik's finest - Winters and Aboushi - for the other guard spot. Presume only 2 make the roster.

they're trying to turn the clock back and going on a spending binge in the process. this is bordering on getting reckless.

You have to have some worry over the fact that, in the NFL, players can go from Pro Bowl level to washed up very quickly, especially at a position like DB, where athleticism is so important. Plus injuries can crop up and they linger more with 30-somethings than with 23-year olds.

That said, I'd be a lot more worried if the Jets were going into some of these signings blind.

Todd Bowles saw Cro close up every day with Arizona. And, as Cimini points out, Cro is known for being in tremendous condition.

Revis is a Hall of Fame talent who was a big part of the Pats winning the Super Bowl and he's another guy whose conditioning and dedication are impeccable.

Bowles also knows what Brandon Marshall is like off the field from their days with the Dolphins.

As Jets and Mets fans, we have more experience with heartbreak than a lot of other fan bases do. But I think that if you're rational, you have to realize that it's the past that breeds trepidation more than any real concerns about the guys the Jets added to the roster.

I can't resist noting that MacCagnan has excited me more in the last week than Sandy has in all his hibernating winters as Mets GM combined.

Jets have built one heckuva defense in just a few days. Patriots actually have something to worry about this year in the AFC East.
