Francesa made an interesting point to a caller today.

The caller was talking about Bowles' propensity for blitzing as DC in Arizona. Francesa said the extreme amount of blitzing was done out of necessity with all the injuries they had.

He expects Bowles to blitz less with this group because they should be able to apply pressure up front without extra rushers.

Francesa also said he thinks the Jets will keep their D-linemen, for 2015 at least, and just rotate a lot of guys in and out to keep them fresh.

MacCagnan is such a low key guy in his interviews.

He stepped into a good situation in terms of getting to show what he can do right away with all the cap space and picking early.

But it looks as if the Jets picked two guys in he and Bowles who have been around a lot of wise people for a long time and paid attention to how things should be done.

I'm lukewarm on Devin Smith as a complete WR. I know he's a legitimate deep threat who can play special teams. The question is can he become more of a complete receiver?

I did prefer Dorial Green-Beckham, but don't think the Maccagnan/Bowles Jets would entertain someone who may end up being a problem.

I was really hoping the Jets would take Jay Ajayi at 152, but the Dolphins snags him at 149. Guy was an absolute beast for Boise.

Bryce petty deserved to go where he went, especially due to his disappointing year last season

but

you guys just got yourselves a QB, who with some developing, can be someone who will be a franchise QB for the next 10 years

His weaknesses are all developmental. His foot work can be fixed. As for people saying hes incapable of reading a defense.....just wait and see how he proves those people wrong.

I scouted him in 2013 as a possible successor to ELI and followed him through out. Saw him improve 2 years ago and thought he could be a first rounder in 2015. Of course, he failed to live up to expectations (as previously noted). That being said, Hes good. If the jets dont play games with him and actually allow him to sit for the next 2 years.......he will prove himself to be a franchise type guy.

The problem is, fans will be asking for him to play by week 6. Would have been better if he went to a team that had the chance to redshirt him for a couple years but its possible he could be ready in a year and a half. Maybe Geno can play half decent until then (I dont believe Geno will ever be the answer)

Not sure if this belongs in the draft thread or the offseason thread, but MacCagnan fired five more holdovers from the personnel department.

If I'm not mistaken, Petty played through a slew of injuries in 2014, which is why his 2013 numbers were better. I'm excited to see what a year of NFL coaching can do for his development.

Absolutely no complaints with this haul. Devin Smith should be a nice compliment to the skillsets of the other WRs on the roster. I imagine Mauldin will be Pace's successor. They took some nice lottery tickets with Petty and the Guard Harrison.

Not quite sure where I saw it but I believe an OSU coach said Devin Smith can run routes...just that he was so explosive deep that's all they really asked him to do.

and I love the Petty pick. Because if Geno faulters, Fitzpatrick can more than hold his own until the end of the season. Pretty much he's being redshirted and that IMO is a key thing.
