Well. Now they WILL makes the playoffs if they run the table.

I kind of liked Fitzpatrick on the order of "anyone but Geno", but he's far exceeded what anyone could have hoped for

It reminds me a bit of what Jose Valentin did when joined the Mets.

And Brandon Marshall. What can you say?

To keep it football related, Fitzpatrick the way he's come in kinda reminds me more of Testaverde...basically a football journeyman who came into his own late in his career. As far as BM goes he's been fantastic.

They didn't run the table.

I'm disappointed, but mainly because they did so much to get where they were and some of the key guys are near the end of their careers.

Some folks will pull out the tired clichés of "same old Jets" as if there's some real connection between teams that counted on Joe Klecko and one that counts on Mo Wilkerson.

In the end, this Jets season is more evidence that wins and losses, and consequently, records, can turn on small differences.

If not for some curious decisions by two coaches who are ticketed for the Hall of Fame (Belechick and Coughlin) the Bills game would have been meaningless before it was played.

And so it goes.

I know Fitz played well this year, but I would not bring him back in 2016. Not sure Petty is ready however

I will say this, having the weapons at his disposal, the Jets have a chance to develop him and still win games. I dont think Geno is the answer and neither do Jets brass

Start the year with Petty and go from there. The Jets drafted him in the 4th but he has 1st round talent as a QB

I don't think Fitz is any kind of long term answer, but I think he's perfect to sign for the next 2 or 3 years all depending upon how much money he wants. From all I've ever read about Petty is that he is still a "project QB," who can use more seasoning. I don't think i'd waste another year of Decker and hopefully Marshall by handing an untested rookie a job.

I have no problem if they bring back Fitzpatrick.

I think we all understand his shortcomings, but I'd go with him over just about any of the "usual suspects" who are likely to become free agents.

He gives them a decent insurance policy if they want to develop a young QB. The young QB could be Petty or it could be some as yet undrafted kid.

I dont think Fit will be able to have the same season again. I understand a few players may be up there in age with him (Marshall) but the best way to develop a QB, is to surround him with talent. What will Marshall be in 2017? What about 2018 (retired maybe?)

In that time, you can replenish the WR core with young talent and all of which, can help bring Bryce along.

If it were me, Id rather have some poor years in 2016/2017, then see Fitz play below the level he did this year, which IMO is a much more likely scenario; given the history

If you're going to do that, you might as well keep Geno and see how he would perform with the talent, which would have happened this year if not for the broken jaw.

In the long run, this hasn't and won't get a lot of play, but here's an interesting piece about Jerricho Cotchery, talking about what led him to leave the Jets when he did.

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-jets/p ... -from-jets

He was never an elite talent, but I always thought the Jets underestimated how valuable he was to the team.

He was and is a genuine tough guy who made plays when they needed to be made.

The linked story also brings out the downside of the Rex Ryan philosophy of "I can coach anybody" that made them bring in a bunch of talented guys who had been let go elsewhere.

Not only do you fill your roster with guys who can't be counted on, but you alienate a lot of the guys who you can count on.
