Article seems pretty fair to both sides. Makes the point that Kap opted out of his contract and was probably looking or starting QB money, not just a minimum deal and while his stats last year were OK, 90.7 qb rating, solid running yards, he's not the type of QB (accuracy/high completion percentage) that coaches like. There's also the argument that running QBs like him are bad for developing a young team but that he might be valuable as a backup.

I think Spike is probably more right than wrong on this. There's probably a team that would have signed him by now if he'd not done his protest but there's also a pretty big grey area with his 1-10 win-loss last year (the giants had the worst defense in the league - that's not entirely on him)

I'm not reading anything written by Spike Lee about sports.

Sorry.

He's a celebrity that happens to be a sports fan. Who cares...

Kap has 3 problems:

1- He's been mediocre if not terrible the past few years. Since he last played in the Super Bowl
Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a better QB, and Fitz is not very good either...

2- He needs the offense to be built around him and his abilities if you are looking to maximize his potential. He's a poor man's Slash (Kordell Stewart for you youngins) in that if you have a GREAT defense and enough offensive components you may be able to build an offense structured around this type of hybrid QB. But how many teams will do that now in what is a passing league especially when the upside isn't great (re: reason #1)

3- He's a headache for owners and FO people over his attempt to make a statement that was controversial.

I have nothing against the dude and believe he had good intentions but it is what it is.

He's paying the price for his play and his actions.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

The article isn't by Spike Lee, it's about the pros and cons of Kap as a player and it mentions Spike Lee's statement and discusses whether or not Spike's statement is fair.

I posted it cause I'm on the fence on this one. I don't like Kap as a starter and I think he was probably looking for a starting job not a bench job. I'm 100% OK with him as a backup cause he's not far off from starter level.

I don't know if Kap was willing to take a smaller deal and a smaller role. That's where I'm on the fence, BUT, I also, 100% think the NFL blackballed him. That's their right, but if they did do that, they should be called out for doing it. Owners should come out and say "We didn't want a guy kneeling during the Anthem on our team". Let the chips fall where they may. Doing that, which I think they did, but pretending they didn't. That should be called out. Maybe nobody will care, but we should at least be honest. This was a blackballing. Period. Or at least, very very very likely.

I think you have to be Michael Jordan to get away with what Kap did though. I'm not sure how I feel about that. People kick and scream about liberals objecting and protesting too much over anything, but the NFL blackballs a player from their league? How is that any different?

I mean - lets be honest. All it would take is one progressive owner to say, "I don't like what Kap did, but I think he helps our team. I've asked him to stop protesting, but it's his right if he wants to keep doing it". - Woudln't that be a better, fairer outcome? But None. ZERO. None of them took that step because they WANTED to punish him. Every last one of them. And Kap's probably better than 20 or 30 guys who did get guaranteed contracts. / / / if we truly respect free speech and freedom of protest, we shouldn't let it dictate who gets a job. At least, that's what we should strive for. We should want Ann Coulter to be able to speak at Berkeley, even if 90% of the students think she's a hate-monger and we should want Kap to be able to make his point without being blackballed. That's the goal. Disagree with the speaker, don't punish the speaker. That he was blackballed - that's worth calling them out on.

The worst part of all of this. The conservatives who hate SJWs who fuss and protest and tell people to shut up. In their minds, block free speech are loving that Kap can't get a job. Rush Limbaugh is out there saying "Good, this is what Kap deserves". It's pure bias.

So, what do I score on the rant scale? I think I nailed at least a 7.5 Maybe an 8.0
