How has he kept his job for so long?

The great thing about pro sports is that there's one measure of success and it's how do you do in competition.

If you go by that measure Frank's teams have been in steady decline and never reached the heights they had in the seasons immediately before he got the job.

Everyone knew this was a rebuilding situation, but the team has gotten worse, not better, as the season has progressed.

Their defense is substandard most of the time, especially at crunch time.

I think Rod Thorn is one of the more savvy front office people in all of pro sports, but he seems to have a blind spot where Frank is concerned.

This is a league where people win coach of the year or take a team deep into the playoffs and are gone within months if the performance slips.

Maybe Frank is seen as a safe caretaker and they'll get a championship-level coach once the games matter.

I do wonder why he hasn't been fired. There were times where the Nets clearly go into the playoffs by way of an incredbily weak conference. This team, however, has some serious budding talent but has been incredibly inconsistent. I guess Thorn would rather not shake things up and consider how overly reactionary other NBA GMs are with coahes tenure (I am not sure if I can name half the coaches in the NBA), Frank stands out for better and for worse. I think it could also be due to ownership (Ratner only seems to care about the Atlantic Yards and can Jay-Z really be considered a real owner when he spends as much time at MSG?) being scared that Frank is the band-aid on an open wound but getting rid of the band-aid would still not help anything in their eyes.

I would like them to look at Eddie Jordan when the season ends but I would also consider somebody who at least emphasizes defense. 50-50 on Vince staying another season.

It became clear to me that Thorn doesn't know good coaching when he fired Byron Scott in the middle of another good season and let this little opie-looking joke take over. The fact that he has kept him just doesn't surprise me at all. I have been a Nets fan for a long time and I have never been more sick of the organization than I have been over the last 3 years.

I don't think Scott got enough credit for what he did when he was here, but he's not exactly Red Auerbach, either.

There was also a palace revolt element to his firing, where the key players (especially Jason Kidd, who had an inordinate amount of power at the time) didn't have any faith in Scott for a variety of reasons.

That said, Frank, workaholic that he supposedly is, doesn't seem able to get the current team to play hard as often as he should.

Are they a contender? No. Should they make the playoffs? Imo, yes, unless Harris is out for a long time.

Frank is awful. No matter how many player moves the Nets make, it seems like this team has plagued by the same problems since Frank took over. Time for a change already.

Unfortunately, the Nets fanbase seems completely deviod of passion, which makes it seem like no one is calling for his head.

I don't think it's a lack of passion as much as a lack of people

It doesn't help that we are kept in limbo. We don't know where we're going, what the direction of the club is, if the team is willing to spend money, why they keep Frank, what the ownership envisions. It feels like we are the Marlins of the NBA, except they win championships every ten years or so.

Rod Thorn was asked about Frank's future with the team and refused to offer any kind of endorsement for next year.

He couched in terms of not being able to guarantee if any players, coaches or presidents (his title) would be with the team next year.

That's a departure from his past practice of always endorsing Frank.

I believe that Lawrence Frank is a good coach. His career 191-177 record alone is not overly impressive, but I believe he has done a decent enough job with the talent given to him. Since taking over for Byron, he led the team to 4 straight playoffs and won the Atlantic division twice. This year the dribble penetration offense he has implemented has made Devin Harris an all-star, and perfectly utilizes the shooters around Devin.

I think the teams Lawrence has coached have been talented, but have never had the most talent. This year has been a rebuilding year, and the team has not quit on him. They still play hard for him, but they lack the talent to be successful. Of the players in the rotation, only a few are above average on the defensive end.

The foundation of Devin Harris and Brook Lopez is there, but they need to surround them with better players.

Ratner since his takeover has been completely complacent. I am unsure why Thorn has not just resigned to go to better pastures with better ownership or he is just as equally complacent. I mean, who seriously lets their own GM bail from the team in the middle of the season to go to a division foe?

I really hope Frank's job gets the proper review and I hope the Nets look around to at least find other possible replacements a la Eddie Jordan.

Reports are he won't be given a chance to break the record.

Today will be his last game......

KIKI to the rescue.

Wise choice - though of course this could just be interim.

What was the point? It's not like the team had playoff aspirations. Lawrence got a raw deal.
