Let me start out by saying that I haven't actively followed the NBA since about 1998.

I still follow the standings and some things lightly, but hardly watch any games.

I'm home sick today, looking to kill time, so I'm going through each teams stats, team by team. I am amazed how many players played in the NBA this season of which whom I thought had long been gone.

Here is a list:

Joe Smith - this guy was a #1 pick, had 3 good seasons to begin his career and someone has become a journey man I see. Played for 10 different teams, 2 of those teams twice. Only 34 years old which is amazing since it seems he's been around forever.

Rasheed Wallace - I'm not really surprised he's still playing as I am he hasn't been kicked out of the league or put in jail.

Lindsey Hunter - Are you kidding? I remember when he and Allan Houston were lottery picks and the eventual successors to Thomas and Dumars in Detroit's backcourt.

Kenyon Martin - Also not really surprised he's still playing, but still surprised he's only 31 and has been in the league since just 2000. He kind of came in while my interested faded out. Doesn't look like he's had the career of a #1 pick either.

Allen Iverson - Are the 76ers really that hard up to generate interest in their team?

Another thing that amazes me is how many apparent league average NBA players earn more than the best NHL players. It sure pays to get into the NBA!

Not only was he a terrible #1 overall but the T'Wolves surrendered 3 1st rounders as a penalty for signing him to an illegal under the table deal. That's like doing 10 years for shoplifting a stick of deodorant..

a lot of people say he's a real laid back and even nice guy OFF the court..Of course lightin one up every hour and a half probably helps..

LOL, I didn't know he was still playing...

He had a pretty serious injury a few years back that's really hurt his game. He was on the verge of becoming a perennial ALL-Defensive team Forward and a solid 17/10 guy. Maybe not a great #1 overall but a pretty good player, unlike Joe Smith or Candyman..

Allen Iverson - Are the 76ers really that hard up to generate interest in their team?

Used to score more than Tiger Woods..Not an elite scorer anymore but he's still better than plenty of other scoring guards in the league. If he had the right mindset and could swallow some pride he could be an enormous asset for a team coming off the bench-maybe even play another 3-4 years. But he's so wrapped up in his image as a "starter" and his ego will not allow him to do what would be perfect at this point in his career, so he decided to quit hoping someone called with an interesting proposition. Can't blame the 76'rs for allowing a Hall of Fame player the chance to retire back were he started and maybe help them win a few games..

Much more popular league.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?
