Exactly- we wouldn't. Douglas would be good enough, as would Sergio Rodriguez if we bring him back.

Sergio looks to be a steal...he is the type of player the Knicks have been looking to acquire (and almost did with Jason Kidd)

he looks like a poor-man's Jason Kidd to me

No. Not really. So you ignore the point position and run with Toney D. That still leaves a lot more holes to fill. A starting center would help. Maybe a starting power forward depending on whether or not you think Wilson Chandler can cut it there (I do not). A back up point guard. A sixth man. A big man off the bench.

Lot of holes. No high draft picks. And very little cap room if you sign 2 max free agents.

(All this doesn't matter if you can sign DWade and Lebron. You could sign kids from my CYO team to fill out the roster in that case.)

Sorry but he is really not like Jason Kidd at all. Even a poor man's. Even the poorest mans.

JKidd is an excellent rebounder. He can defend bigger players. He has elite size for a point guard. He has some of the best court vision the NBA has ever seen. And while still not a great shooter, he is getting 2 threes a game this year and has really improved in this area in his old age.

They play the same position. Thats all I got.

Sergio will set some people up and is very creative with the ball in his hands. He can knock down some long range jumpers. He is a passable defender. But he has no where near the skillset of Jason Kidd.

We already have:

Gallinari
Chandler
Douglas

If you sign Bosh and Lebron that's your starting lineup. That's plenty of size:

Lebron- 6'8"
Bosh- 6'10"
Gallinari- 6'10"
Chandler- 6'8"
Douglas- 6'2"

Then you will be around the cap limit. However, Curry will be able to be traded for a longer term deal since he is an expiring. Doing that, we would likely be able to acquire a decent center or PG or even a couple of solid backups.

You also would be able to sign some good role players to the veterans minimum. I'm sure there would be plenty of good role players willing to sign for the vets minimum once Lebron and Bosh were here.

There's also the scenario where Lebron takes less than a max deal so the Knicks can give him the best possible team, knowing he'll more than make up for that money with endorsements.

could they do sign and trades for both nate and lee?

with the idea that they would fill multiple positions + get some draft picks?

i would love the knick to keep lee , but it might help the team more if they can trade lee to maybe phoenix for nash + a 2010 draft pick ? or some other deal in which we get multiple useful players to fit around lebron..?

Nate's been traded to Boston. You could sign and trade Lee, yes but then you can't sign two max guys. So you would have to do the sign and trade to get a star to entice Lebron to sign here.

Woah....A Tom post!

If the Knicks don't get LeBron and sign Joe Johnson, I will not be a happy camper

How good would they really be anyway with Bosh/JJ....Its not worth is NY!

I really think the best move once they get their 2 max guys is to do a trade with a team that strikes out and wants a shot at Melo next offseason

NY gets LeBron and Wade/Bosh then trades Curry and his expiring deal to a team that has a bad long-term contract on a slightly better player...Okafor and his 5 year/$60 million deal? That one is a bad example maybe thats an AWFUL contract....maybe take on Villanueva or Ben Gordon's contract? Rashard Lewis' or Elton Brand's...There are a lot of bad contracts that go past 2011 if you happen to get 2 good max guys and are able to unload Curry and his expiring deal

Or you wait a year with Eddy and have money to sign a FA when everyone wants to play with LeBron/Bosh but that might take you out of it for 2010-11 even though you have LeBron and Bosh because the bench would be so short on talent

Why don't people want Wade?

A lineup of Douglas, Lebron, Gallo, Bosh, and Chandler would work against certain teams. This lineup has enough size to work on the offensive end. But, I do believe they would struggle to protect their own basket. Bosh is a very good rebounder, but he is not really a shot blocker. Lebron James and Bosh actually block about the same number of shots per game over the last 3 years. I question if he can guard bigger forwards in the post for an entire game. I believe he is better than what you currently have in David Lee, but he is not really a shot blocker or an intimidating presence on defense.

On the offensive end, this team would be dynamite. One of the highest scoring teams in the league. You can put anyone next to Lebron and he will make them look good. And if you give him someone who is also very talented, he will make their game even better. Gallo would space the floor very nicely. Toney Douglas could dribble it past half court and then pass it to Lebron. Wilson Chandler could play a slashing role from the PF position. There is no doubt this team would cause matchup problems.

But Lebron has to rest sometimes. And that will be one of the problems for Walsh this offseason. Who comes off the bench?

I never really know what value NBA players have, but do you think Curry will fetch anything worthwhile? Yes he is an expiring, but I think you would have to throw in some picks in order to get something of value. He has no real on-the-court value.
