I've only seen parts of the games the Knicks have played since they shook up their roster, but so far I'm impressed with Sergio Rodriguez. I think he has a chance to thrive in an uptempo system like D'Antoni's and with some legitimate players around him. Hopefully they are able to keep him next year.

I don't know if he's the answer. I haven't really seen him play. But I will say it's been a long time since the Knicks had a guy at the point that I wanted to have the rock in his hands with the game on the line.

Like a Mark Jackson/Walt Frazier kinda long time.

He has looked good on offense so far. He has found teammates for open looks, can run the pick and roll very well with David Lee, and was making his threes last night. He has been a little turnover prone, but that is understandable when coming into a new system and learning on the fly.

The problem with him, as with many of the other Knicks, is on the other side of the ball. Westbrook abused him in the game against the Thunder. And last night the Celtics would feed it to whomever Sergio was matched up with. Sometimes it was Ray Allen and sometimes it was Rondo. Sergio does not have enough strength to deal with a bigger guard. He did alright against Milwaukee because he was able to stay in front of their smaller point guards in Jennings and Ridnour. I will give Sergio credit, however. He does appear to compete on the defensive end. He does not just lay down. And sometimes that is passable in the NBA.

Knick fans can say what they want about Chris Duhon, but I believe he is the better basketball player than Sergio. Sergio may wow you with a flashy pass or two, but Duhon put up respectable numbers and ran your offense efficiently. Now, of course, Duhon would look lazy and did nothing to excite you. But he averaged 7.2 assists last year with 2.8 turnovers. And this year he was getting 6.2 assists and 1.7 turnovers.

Sometimes, when a player is as disliked by a fanbase as Duhon is, they are happy with whatever replaces him. I think we may be seeing that with Sergio.

I like him. He's 23 and hasn't gotten much playing time.

I sort of like the team of Sergio, McGrady, Gallo, Chandler and Lee as a starting 5. I think that team could make the playoffs without completely squeaking by.

Add a max-player, resign Sergio and McGrady (assuming he's still a great player) and maybe a Camby for defense and I think that's the making of a real good team.

3 mil for sergio, 4-5 mil for camby, 6 for McGrady + a max and you got a couple million left over.

Eh, who knows... there's so many possibilities that there's not much point in talking about it now. Still fun to think about though.

I wouldn't touch TMac, to be honest. We're using him for his contract, nothing more.

Get me 2 MAX players, trade Lee for picks, trade Curry for some other teams decent but ridiculously expensive player, and go.

Sergio/Douglas
LeBron
Gallo
Bosh
Chandler

Can't trade Lee. The only claim the Knicks have on him after this season are his Bird Rights which is only the ability to go over the cap to get him. The only way I see it working out: A team without a ton of space wants Lee, the Knicks outbid them, and do a sign and trade, with the Knicks only picking up a small amount in salary. Other than that, it's doubtful, and there are 9-10 teams that could do the same thing as the Knicks. The Knicks wouldn't want to do this with a team with no cap space either as they would have to take back a lot of salary... unless the players they get back fit into their plan.

Can't sign Sergio and 2 Max Players... I don't think the Knicks even get a midlevel exception. It's 2 max players and nothing... Maybe the Knicks could trade Curry for a player being paid like 8 million over 3 more years and free up another 3 million...

lots of possibilities.

Not only that but Lee would have to waive his no trade clause..

Now if he WOULD have waived it this past week was the time to deal him..

Renounce his rights & sign 2 Max players<<<< Deal him at deadline for expiring(s), young player(s) and pick(s) and STILL have room for 2 Max players

Truth is Lee wants to stay for many reasons, one of which is his girlfriend who lives here in NY..

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

I think Sergio has looked pretty bad in his time here so far. Can't defend anyone, is out of control a lot on offense. Besides, with Lebron you don't need a point guard. Also don't need one with T-Mac.

Billy Walker is the guy who interests me. Guy was an absolute stud in HS and considered a can't miss star. He's had some injuries and taken a strange route to the NBA. I'm interested to see what he can do.

Rodriguez is too careless with the ball- way too many turnovers.

I agree with you about Bill Walker- he could be a steal. He's got phenomenal athleticism and really has improved his offensive game since he was at Kansas State. He was buried on the bench in Boston and I think he might be a nice role player for the revamped Knicks team next year.

JR Giddens also has potential- he played well against the Sixers as well.

The fact that we got interesting pieces for my most hated player on the Knicks makes me happy :)
