After taking questions about his end-of-game coaching strategy, Mike D'Antoni snapped at Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.

"Oh that's right, you're undefeated as a coach," D'Antoni said to Isola.

Isola was asking D'Antoni why -- with the Knicks leading by three points in the closing seconds -- he did not tell his team to issue a foul before the opposition could get up a three-point shot to tie.

In two recent games against the Thunder and Wizards, the Knicks led by three points with the shot clock turned off in the fourth quarter. In both instances -- one by Kevin Durant and another by Nick Young -- the Knicks yielded a three-point shot that tied the game.

"Good one, Mike," Isola wrote on his blog, responding to D'Antoni's insult.

"You're absolutely correct. I have never had the privilege of coaching an NBA game and have never been in position to earn $6 million by making such life-or-death choices like deciding when or if to foul up three," Isola wrote.

Isola is the only one in the media with the guts to stand up to this "celebrity" coach. This could be the beginning of the end for him. I'm thinking if the Knicks land LeBron, you could coax Jeff Van Gundy for a reunion.

I'm certainly no basketball expert, and to be fair I don't know if it was just one question and he snapped, or the same question asked 12 times before he snapped, but I am siding with D'Antoni on this one. He played professionally for 17 years and he's coached for 20.

It''s obviously poor form to call out reporters as non-athletes/coaches, but it's equally poor form to mock D'Antoni's career choice and use his salary against him. Like Isola would turn down $6m from the Post if they put it on the table.

I'm not a big D'Antoni, mostly because I prefer playoff/grind coaches to run-and-gun/lose in the first round coaches.

But the bottom line is the guy agreed to come here with it being public knowledge that his record would be tainted by the Knicks basically taking a mulligan until 2010/2011. I think subsequently the guy deserves a mulligan of his own on the minutia of this decision that decision, etc.

Nothing he's done or hasn't done is/was going to make the Knicks a 50 win team in the last couple of years. And his resume will always and forever be tainted with 'the Knicks years'.

I think D'Antoni is pretty good evidence that in the NBA if you have great players you win (D'Antoni's Suns) and otherwise (D'Antoni's Knicks) it's pretty difficult.

I was out in Utah on my recent work trip and Tom Nissalke, an NBA (and ABA) lifer, is part of the Jazz broadcasts. He's pretty outspoken and he said only about half a dozen teams in the NBA are genuinely well-coached.

I like D'Antoni as a coach and i think his system could work with the right players. IMO his biggest problem and one that needs to be addressed is the complete lack of a Point guard. The offense is made for a creative playmaker with the ability to distribute and without one it just never goes.

Isola's a clown. It is really an open secret how much of a joke the NY basketball writers have been lacking professionalism throughout these last few years. Other cities hoops writers have been very open about how the NY writers, likely led by Isola, have lacked any sort of professionalism during the playoffs eg waving their pom-poms for the Celtics to beat the Cavs, etc.
