Despite what Ernie Grunfeld may have said last night (http://dimemag.com/2010/05/wizards-top- ... ng-traded/), Arenas has to available this offseason. It makes too much sense: the Wizards can get Wall to replace him at the point, they can clear a lot of money, he's turning 29 this year, and they can put last year's incident behind them.

Yes, I know he was suspended for 60% of 2009 because of the gun incident. But I think the Knicks should trade for him.

The problem for the Knicks this offseason is their current roster. It has a couple of decent players (Gallo, Chandler) but not any top-tier talent. Arenas is a complete player, good defense, good scorer, decent distributor.

I may be misunderstanding the NBA trade rules, but I think they can make it happen with Curry's expiring contract, their two trade exceptions, and one other player, such as Sergio Rodriguez.

With Arenas, the talent on the floor suddenly makes the team more attractive to potential free agents. I don't have the time to crunch the numbers before work, but I believe that the Knicks could make it work in terms of making two max offers (or one max and one high) and acquiring Arenas.

Thinking out loud :

PG: Arenas
SG: Chandler
SF: Gallinari
PF: James
C: Stoudamire

No way. Arenas is not a PG, for D'Antoni's system to be successful they need a PG who can see the floor, distribute and control the offense. Plus Arenas may have the worst contract in the NBA and has only played 47 games in the last 3 years.

Curry's contract is a valuable asset as it could bring in that 3rd high level player if the Knicks were to sign LeBron and Bosh. Especially withmost of the NBA teams with cash flow problems. Heck you may even be able to use it as a piece with draft picks and Gallinari or chandler to acquire Chris Paul with the Hornets financial issues and more than capable backup in Collison.

I love the idea of trading Curry's expiring contract just not for Arenas.

Ugh..Please no to Arenas. Forget the gun story (which was pathetic), he's not what we dumped 2 seasons for (Gilbert as the third wheel along with 2 Max's would be OK tho).

Man, if we end up putting together a slightly better team than what we had with Zach Randolph, Jamal Crawford, David Lee and E-City why the hell did we waste 2 seasons??

I was for the '08 deals but had we known we'd be putting together another squad of secondary NBA stars I would have wanted them to stay with status quo. Because that team with that talent playing speed ball (SSOL) was entertaining and could have been a playoff team even if they wouldn't have gotten far. And they killed it for the chance to be a similiar averagish team 2 years later??

Rant over..Sorry. Just worried LJ's not coming and will end up in Chicago..

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?
