But, the Lakers are also a good defensive team. You have to be good at both.

The Knicks are 6th in the league in offensive efficiency. Offense is not their problem. But, they are 19th in the league in defensive efficiency. And they are 8-9.

The name of the game is scoring the basketball. But, keeping points off the board is important as well.

I've been really impressed with Amare's leadership.

(To the tune of 'That's Amore'):

When your cap room is gone, and you don't have LeBron, That's Amar'e.
When your GM got played by Chris Bosh and D-Wade, That's Amar'e.
When he comes into town and turns your team around, That's Amar'e.
He will spin with such grace, and slam dunk in your face, that's Amaaaaaar'e!!!!

I just hope fans don't jump off the bandwagon in Dec/Jan because we start a brutal stretch of games on Dec 12: Denver, Boston, Miami, Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Chicago, Miami, Orlando, Indiana, San Antonio, Phoenix, LA Lakers, Portland, Utah, Sacramento, Phoenix, Houston, San Antonio, Oklahoma city, Washington, Miami, Atlanta.

That takes us through January 28th. There's only a few bad teams in that whole stretch so I hope fans don't get too worried if we lose against some of these top-tier teams.

It's fun to be watching Knick games again. Amare is an amazing athlete and great fun to watch. Felton is playing at a very high level right now also. I'd really like them to wait until the summer to get 'Melo and not trade chips - especially Chandler or Fields.
What this team lacks now is a consistent scorer to go along with Amare. On the nights that Chandler or Gallo score big, they'll be tough, but that's not going to be enough to be a real strong team. With Carmelo they can contend.

I agree. Wait until the summer and sign Melo. The worst thing they could do is trade Gallo, Fields, Chandler, etc. for Melo in-season. If they're able to sign Melo in the offseason without losing anyone, then basically the team is set with role players and superstars. We could then trade one of our surplus 3's (maybe Chandler) for a defensive center and maybe sign a low-cost backup PG.

I like D'antoni - i think we can win with his style. there was a couple of years - where Phoenix was so close to making it to the championship game - and if they made it i think they would have won it all.

I just think D'antoni needs that special point guard to run this offense.

The knicks are playing well right now - i was impressed with the win over New Orleans.

the schedule starts getting brutal in mid december - through all of january - where they play a lot games verse winning teams .. if they are over .500 by the end of january - i would be impressed.

Amare has been a great signing on many levels. He's an elite talent and a genuine leader on top of that.

Yes he definitely stepped us his overall game from his days in PHX. This team is fun!

The more I watch, the more I detest the idea of trading Fields. This guy is a fantastic basketball player. Yes, I used the word fantastic. He reminds me of Ginobili to some degree. Just does everything well to help his team win. For me, he's a deal-breaker for any Carmelo deal. I'd trade Gallinari in a heartbeat, and reluctantly add Chandler - mostly because Anthony's going to play their positions anyway. But Fields, no way.
Then there's Felton. I went back to look at scouting reports from his draft year. He went 5th, just after fellow point guards Paul and Williams. Many draft guys had him as the best of the group, certainly the best athlete of the 3. I saw one report that said in the wrong system he'd be average, but in an uptempo system he'd be the best PG in that draft. Interesting.

I agree except I would definitely not trade Gallinari. Even with Melo, you need someone like him on the outside to shoot the 3's and he would be an ideal 6th man if we did get Melo (or in the lineup if we play with Melo at the 4 replacing Chandler). Not to mention Gallo is 22 and is already a great role player (with the upside to be much more, especially now that he's driving to the basket more frequently and getting to the line). He also plays hard on the defensive end and hits clutch shots down the stretch frequently.

As to Felton, I definitely think we are starting to see some of that potential he had coming out of college being realized. In Charlotte he was stuck in a slowed-down half-court system and now he's free to run the floor. He's also improved his jumper dramatically in the last two seasons.

The real test for the Knicks comes in the next 22 games where the schedule becomes absurdly tough. If they are somehow still over .500 after these games then I would be very impressed (I see them going 7-15, however).

Coming from Pac 10 land, I was really surprised how underrated Fields was coming out of college. I understood that being a senior he wasn't going to be looked at a superstar future talent but he was a really good player who did a lot stuff right all the time and pretty athletic.
