If you're referring to the game tonight, then you're talking about probably the worst game they've played all season. Their two best players (Amare and Felton) had bad nights and their 3rd best player (Gallo) is hurt.

And good teams like the Spurs, Celtics, Bulls, Thunder, and Hornets certainly had problems with us.

Gallo is not the Knicks third best player. Wilson Chandler is and he should be talked about more for how well he is playing this year.

The Knicks need more size to be able to play with the Lakers. It sounded like a bad idea to start Shawne Williams before the tip, and the move really did not work. D'Antoni said the idea was to space the floor and make the Laker bigs have to defend the perimeter, but Shawne ended up 1-3 from 3pt range with 8 points and almost a non-factor on offense. Amare needed 24 shots to score 23 points and played one of his worst offensive games of the season. Pau and Bynum were able to score and get to the line and really used their size to create offense.

The Knicks really could use a big man. You hear Marcus Camby or Sammy Dalembert floating around and they would be an improvement, but what would you have to give up and is it worth it?

What I saw last night - I live in LA and am a Lakers fan - was a typical D'Antoni undersized team relying on the 3 point shot which can only take you so far. They don't really pose much competition. Perhaps last night was a case of the Knicks being off their game and the Lakers finally much more on it, but I've seen this before with Phoenix and ultimately it just doesn't work.

Winning championships is very difficult, no matter how a team is structured. I seethe when I hear the old cliche about D'Antoni's system not being a playoff winner because his teams don't play defense. How about those Knick teams of the '90's? How many championships did they win?
D'Antoni's system has already been very successful in the playoffs. His first full year, the Suns went to the Conference Finals, winning 2 of 3 series. His second season, same thing (beating Phil Jackson along the way). Third season, beats the Lakers again in the playoffs. Fourth season loses in first round.
So, his teams won 5 playoff series and lost 4 in a brutally tough Western Conference, beating truly great teams along the way.

Hard to really justify this statement about D'Antoni teams. Besides his fabulous regular season records with the Suns - beating plenty of great teams regularly - he has multiple playoff series wins against very good teams, including the Lakers twice and an outstanding 58 win Mavs team.

i agree. i like d'antoni's system. I loved those Suns teams. You put the Suns in the eastern conference those years and they probably make it to the Finals at least once.

I think the knicks have exceeded expectations for me so far. but they are currently backsliding with the 3 straight losses and are now only 4 games over .500.

no need to make any foolish trades ...i think this team can maintain the 6th seed and pose a tough challenge in the 1st round of the playoffs.

so we make this big trade for melo (trading away good chips for a free agent to be)

and the knicks still find themselves playing mediocre.. currently only 1 game over .500
