Need something between the 1 and the 5, but wow, this is exciting after the rumors of Andre Miller and the expiring contract of Caron Butler the last 2 days.

Kinda funny. I was just about to begin a thread saying the Nets were stuck in a limbo where they could accumulate all the cap space in the world, but it meant nothing if they couldn't find a superstar to take the money.
Williams is not a marquee name in terms of tickets and marketing, but now you've got two major elements in PG and the 5.
Maybe this makes them a more attractive destination.
They could also get lucky with an impact player in the draft and then build around that core

Heck yeah! Why didn't we do this a long time ago?! I think we needed a PG more than Melo anyway. This is absolutely fantastic. A dynamite trade for the Nets. The picks we look to be giving up are ours from this year and the Golden State pick next year. No 4 first rounders, no having to convince Deron he wants to play for us.
It will stink to lose our pick this year, but we have a legit NBA star in his prime.

They're crazy soft in the 2-3-4, with not much depth behind them, but wow, what a turnaround. Best PG in the game. Chris Mannix threw him into the "Top 5 in the game" on WEEI yesterday talking about Melo trade (said he was more in the 15-18 range). Cost far less than what Melo was going to. Just....WOW.
If they can lure in a legit 3/4 and return Hump or Damion to their better "role player" spots, this could get very fun very quick.
Andre Miller, Caron Butler/Dom Jones, or Deron Williams. Hmmmmmmmm.
I wouldn't say it cost far less than Melo considering Billups, who is also an impact player, was packaged with Melo.
Favors=Gallo Harris=Felton
Plus your picks are very valuable, especially this years.
Also, Deron hasn't signed an extension yet so he could leave after next season.
Great move for the Nets.
I don't think the are valuable for this year's draft as it is pretty weak.

Hey, you know what they say: see a broad to get dat booty yak 'em... ...leg 'er down a smack 'em yak 'em!
I'm not going to get into comparing Knicks vs. Nets packages/players because that is completely subjective and a silly exercise (I don't see where Ray Felton is viewed in the same light as Devin Harris, however...George Karl obviously doesn't see it), but the Nets package for Melo included the same 2 guys, plus 4(!) first rounders, which is what I was referring to.
And this is obviously ignoring the fact that, by almost any subjective view, DWill > Melo.
This year's pick is the most valuable asset in the deal. Favors is a very good prospect, but is young and has only shown flashes. It is arguable to say that he has not even put a full game together. Now, the kid has obvious potential. He is the youngest player in the NBA. He is already good on defense. He is very athletic. He is shooting a good percentage. And he has a good head on his shoulders. But, Favors is a bundle of raw potential and Deron Williams is the best all round point guard in the league.
It was clear that Harris was out of here and losing him really doesn't hurt the Nets much. He is a good player, but was more of a score first point guard and that is something the Nets do not need.
It would be nice if the Nets pick this year has some protection to it. Obviously cannot expect it, but maybe a protection could be done. I don't expect it, however, and that would only provide a cherry on top.
thebull, gotta say dude. There is no raining on this parade. Sure, Deron may peace after a year and a half. But, I don't care right now. I can enjoy his time here and we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

You have to look ahead to some degree, but a franchise like the Nets can't pass on a move because of something that might happen 18 months.
This is an all-star in his prime and they can make him a centerpiece of what they're doing.
That has to be appealing to his ego and Prokhorov certainly has the cash to keep him happy

I would like to see the Nets acquire a wing player who can play some defense and run the floor. Maybe a Shane Battier. Maybe look elsewhere and get a more athletic wing. But, I like Hump in the starting 5. He is a terrific rebounder who plays tough and does the dirty work. I wouldn't mind Hump getting 30 minutes from here on out.
I think we need to upgrade either Morrow or James. Both are capable, but each have holes in their game and may be more suited for bench roles.
