I'll let someone else tackle the Chris Paul disaster.

Chris Broussard @Chris_Broussard 4 mins Reply Retweet Favorite · Open
Sources say Dwight Howard will ask Orlando to trade him to NJ today. Trade could take place today.

Get this DONE Billy King!

Take anything besides Deron. This is fantastic.

But, really only Chris Broussard is reporting this. Woj had no scoop. There is not much else to confirm this.

We would instantly become cool.

It better be a great deal because this is exactly what the league doesn't want to happen anymore.

League doesn't own the Magic though so they can't really veto it the way they did the Paul trade.

I thought every trade needs league approval. It was just easier in the case of NO since they owned it.

Ultimately I think the biggest problem the league had wasn't Paul going to the Lakers but the fact that the Lakers set themselves up to still have room to go after Howard , creating a another 3 star trio.

It wouldn't be a terrible deal for Orlando if they get Lopez and several picks, which is the rumored deal I saw. Brooks Lopez is a good, emerging center, who took a small step back after a big rookie season, giving someone who can help to replace Dwight, while also giving more of an offensive presence for the Magic. Meanwhile, this gives the Nets a chance to keep Williams and Dwight (I think, not sure on cap situation), which be great for the league and all involved as they move to the billion dollar Barclays Center.

The move to nix the Paul deal could kill the Nets' hopes because now the Lakers are poised to go after Howard.

Last year, the Nets lost out on Melo, but they might have been better off by getting Deron Williams.

I don't see any similar Plan B if they can't land Howard.

And let's face it if they don't land Howard there is no chance D. Williams stays, as he has already stated. I'm not a cap guy, so I don't even know if they could afford both under the new CBA, though.

Nets fans, D-Howard stated he'd only sign with 4 teams: Nets, Lakers, Mavs, Magic.

IMO he's only saying the Magic to be courteous, he certainly could re-sign there but I doubt it.

Mavs are a wildcard. Not sure he has eyes for Dallas and Dirk may only have a few more years left as a premiere player.

Lakers obviously are the team to worry about and I'd hope they get back in the Paul trade talk and have to give up Bynum because that would put Howard in NJ/Brk IMO.

Bynum's the key though. If he's included in another deal an offer of Lopez, fillers, picks may be athe best offer on the table.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

The Nets are preparing a blockbluster 4 team offer to try and get Howard, according to Woj. Nothing close but it is another step in the right direction.

An era in which players can ask to be traded to particular teams cannot be a good thing.

jdawg, I agree.

I do not fault the players though. They will be paid less money on the free agent market if they choose their team. They have to get theirs.
