So Dwight apparently had a change of heart (no doubt influenced by others who reminded him what a silly financial decision this would be) and all was well again. I went to bed, and reports were that the Nets and Magic were aggressively moving towards something. Not the IDEAL situation (that would be signing him in July), but with all his waffling, would be nice to just have he and DWill here, in place, and have confidence in BK to figure out the rest as he goes.

Of course, then I wake up, and reports are that Dwight changed his mind AGAIN and late last night, informed some blogger that he WILL, indeed, opt-in and sign the paperwork in the morning, blaming "bad advice" for his earlier change of heart. His exact words were he'd sign first thing in the morning.

Of course, its not 9:30 and there has apparently been no confirmation of him signing the paperwork. Maybe he has a different view of "first thing", though.

Nets are sending Shawne Williams' and Mehmet Okurs' contracts + a top 3 protected 1st rounder to Portland for Gerald Wallace.

Somebody who knows better than I can hopefully explain this to me, but WHAT THE HELL!?

Wallace can opt-out after the season, and we just gave up a likely top 10 pick for him? For what? So now when DWill opts-out, with Wallace, we don't have anyone, and no lottery pick now!? What the hell is going on?

Nothing goes right for the Nets.

They were pretty close to teaming Dwight Howard and Deron Williams.

And now, with Howard out of the mix, Williams becomes the unquestioned most attractive free agent in the game.

Terrible trade for Gerald Wallace. I love me some Gerald Wallace, but giving up our pick is insane. This is a great draft, and with the Nets luck will no doubt be the 4th pick now. It will be a great trade if the Nets keep the pick, but that cannot be relied upon.

Haha Billy King says the Nets are in win now mode. HAHA. We are one of the worst teams in the league. The Nets think they can still make the playoffs.

Why does Billy King insist on dealing our top draft picks? At least with Favors it was for Deron Williams. This time it looks like a desperate heave to keep Deron happy.

The Wallace trade looks even worse with each passing blowout loss.

Last home game for the New Jersey Nets is tipping in about 4 minutes. I'm sad. The Nets are like a joke no one finds funny.

I am going to miss them playing in New Jersey. There have been some lean years-- some good years too-- but a lot of lean years. New Jersey is my home. The Nets leaving feels like the older brother with the drug habit moving out of the house. There is hope. But doubt can only creep into the mind.

Cheers Nets. I really enjoyed your company.

BK sounds like he will be resigning Wallace to a multi-year deal.

Big night for the Nets tonight. If they land in the top 3 of the draft lotto, the Nets keep the pick rather than it going to Portland. If it is any lower, it goes to Portland. But, even if the Nets do land top 3, there is a good chance Billy King deals it away.

At this point, I would rather keep the pick if we somehow land in the top 3. Billy King obviously won't keep it, but I would. Billy will try to package it for Dwight or something else to keep Deron around.

Guess what Billy. There are more than 2 good basketball players in the world. Stop this nonsense. Build a team, accumulate depth, and develop young players. I am sick of watching garbage NBA ball played by bottom of the barrel performers. If he would direct his attention to building a team rather than selling out for overpriced, pampered players, then maybe I could have watched some Net playoff basketball.

I cannot wait until Gerald Green, Deron Williams, Kris Humphries, and Gerald Wallace walk away from the Nets and we run out a starting 5 of Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, MarShon Brooks, Johan Petro, and Brook Lopez.

At least Billy has not traded away next years pick yet.

The pick came in at 6 and goes to Portland. Hahaha. Stupid, stupid Nets. How is Billy King a general manager?

We put all our eggs in one basket. And this basket had a hole in it and below the hole was an animal that likes to eat eggs.

I'm thinking real hard trying to come up with a worse trade than the one Billy King made for a couple of guaranteed months of Gerald Wallace.

I wish more NBA players approached the game the way Wallace does, but he's the kind of player you add as a complementary piece on a team with an already-strong roster.

The amazing thing is that the possibility exists that things could get worse if Wallace turns around and signs elsewhere.

Nope, it got even worse than that. He had the Nets so far over a barrel he squeezed 4/40 out of BK.

This is going to be an interesting offseason, for sure, but with the Luis Scola and Joe Johnson rumors, I have a feeling its going to reiterate why Billy King was considered one of, if not THE, worst GM in basketball when he was in Philly, rather than send the team off to Brooklyn on a strong note.
