The move to Brooklyn is complete. The team is playing well, especially at home.

Avery's rotations and offense still piss me off (see his use of Jerry Stackhouse and MarShon Brooks), but he has talent to work with now. Maybe they can hide some of Avery's deficiencies.

They beat a very competent Clipper team tonight and look to continue the home court dominance versus Portland on Sunday. It will give everyone a good look at Damien Lillard, the dynamite Portland point guard who was picked with the Nets pick from last year. He could make a run at an All-Star spot this year.

The Nets have hit the skids. They are 2-8 in December. They are playing poor basketball but the talent is there. They will get better and likely make the playoffs. The East is weak. The Nets could pull off an upset in a seven game series.

A .500 record is usually enough for the playoffs and that should be attainable.

It was about time, but the Nets finally fired Avery.

He had no clue how to structure an offense and his rotations were maddening. I'm not sure I like PJ Carlisimo much better, but change was needed. Perhaps now the Nets will learn how to properly space the floor and incorporate weak side man movement in their offense.

You never know whether a new coach is going to be a difference-maker. I mean who would have predicted Mike Woodson's impact on the Knicks?

I'm not even sure they'll do better than Avery, but watching the Nets play in December (I didn't watch full games, for the most part) was like Groundhog Day. A competitive opening quarter or half, with a fade in the second half and not always against good teams.

As always, when a coach gets the ax, key players are underperforming. I've always had my doubts about Deron Williams (although he had a great stretch last year that made me re-think my skepticism).

I think that a true superstar changes games when his team needs it, especially when the superstar's position calls for him to have the ball in his hands.

I think I saw Devin Harris step up more when he first became a Net than Deron Williams has this year.

Maybe he has it in him--look at Carmelo now compared to what he was during D'Antoni's tenure, both in terms of conditioning and performance.

Joe Johnson also needs to pick up his game.

But fair or not, the NBA is a league where a coach's job security largely depends on his ability to get along with his stars. Clearly, Avery failed at that and he wasn't getting results on top of that.

Saw this on Reddit/Hoopsworld and thought it was pretty funny.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?
