Looks like the Knicks are cutting ties with Phil.

Thank God.

and . . . wow, that was an expensive mistake. Dolan has got to be the dumbest owner in sports. Not the worst. He tries to win, he really tries and he spends, but OMG, he spends badly.

Wow, PhilJax gone. Thought he would have a longer rope.

First pleasant surprise from the Knicks in a long time!

On to Dolan's next hire.....

My confidence that he plucks a great GM is along the lines of my confidence in Wilmer Flores winning a Gold Glove soon.

He should have been gone right after the trade deadline IMHO.

The funny thing is that Dolan extended him in April, (2 years), then fired him in June. (2 & 1/2 months later). Paid him like 60 million in all to do a lousy job. I could have done a better job.

That's always been their thing though:

Signed Jared Jefferies as a FA and then looked to dump the bad contract a month later just before training camp in I think 2006.

Picked up Billups option then used the amnesty on him 3 months later.

The kind of stuff nobody would believe possible for a pro franchise.

And to think I used to hate on Ernie Grunfeld back in the 1990's

The best GM since Ernie was probably Donnie Walsh, who wasn't great.

#2 was probably Grunwald

Think about that for a second....

The guy who traded a 1st rounder for Bargs is our 2nd best GM in the past 17 years!!!!

Don't forget Steve Francis.

But, that one I can chalk up to miscommunication and . . . Oh, I don't know. Story goes, Larry Brown wanted Francis, Isiah didn't, but Isiah did it for Larry. Needless to say, acquiring Francis worked out about as well as Larry.

and yeah, Knicks are such a joke (and I'm a life-long Knicksfan saying this), but really. They spend like the Yankees but Win less than the Mets.

Or how about the time they traded Tim Hardaway Jr. for Jerian Grant and then a year later traded Grant for Derrick Rose.

And then a year after that renouncing Rose so that they could give Hardaway a 71 million dollar contract.

I wish I could wave a magic wand and say this never happened. I mean, maybe Hardaway might turn out OK, but I still don't get this move. It hurts their cap space next year and where's the upside? Unless Jr. is much better than I think he is, this one . . . wow. Everyone is ripping it. What were they thinking?
