JayBo has signed. 5 years 33 million.

Wonderful. Not even as much as I expected him to get.

Good signing, but I don't think the Flames needed JB. Who will put the puck in the net for them? They only have one true offensive line, so their D will have to hold the opponents to less then 2 or 3 goals per game.

They will have 70% of their cap space tied up on 7 players, Inginla, JB, Kipper, Phaneuf, Olli, Regehr and Langkow. Who will they get to fill out the rest of teh team?

I disagree. We needed a top 4 dman, and got one of the better ones in the league. The team defense left a lot to be desired last year.

Sutter will find someone to put the puck in the net. A top line of Iggy, Olli, and Rene Borque will be able to score in bunches. Then add in Curtis Glencross, Daymond Langkow, David Moss, Dustin Boyd, and Craig Conroy and you can put together a makeshift second line. Prospect Mikael Backlund will likely be on the team this year, and maybe could slide into a second line role. He should provide playmaking and a scoring touch from the center position. Then we should have one of the better scoring dcore's in the league. Dion should up his production next year. JayBo will provide scoring. And a full year of Mark Giordano will help the offense.

Our offense will not be world beaters, but it should get excellent production from its top line and defense. The rest of the forwards will give balanced scoring and great energy. I also do not think Sutter is adding forwards. He will try to pull someone off the scrapheap (a la Huselius) or find an undervalued commodity like a Rene Borque or Curtis Glencross. No doubt we will be a defensive minded team, but I do not foresee offense being too much of a problem.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

I watched Al MacInnis take a slapshot in the 1993-1994 season. I was young and did not root for any team up to that point. I filed the Al slapper in the memory bank as something I liked.

Then Jarome Iginla came up in '96. It took a couple years for him to become a superstar, but young Jarome still showed you flashes of brillance. He would level someone in the corner, walk out with the puck, shake off a defender, and then snipe a wrister on net. He was raw. He was still learning how to play forward. But when you watched him, you kind of just knew he was going to be a good one.

MacInnis started it. Then Jarome clinched the deal.

Well, 2009-2010 has started off very well for the Flames. Wins against Vancouver and Edmonton.

I expect playoffs from this team with a very high seed.

That's understandable as every one has their own story-but there seems to be more than a handful of Flames fans here which is pretty weird. Not hating at all as I'm not much of an NHL fan either way...(gave it a shot a few years back tho)..

1-8-0 in their last 9 after winning 5 straight, including a 9-1 loss against the Sharks.

Gotta pull it together soon!
