Okay I'm taking this thread back in favor of the King. 9th shutout today, Henke just played out of his mind and stole 2 crucial points in a classic goalie duel. Hopefully he's turned a corner and plays like the goaltender we had in the first couple months of the season. 9-0-3 in the last 12, 5 points out of 1st, those division games can't come soon enough.

Put your list of the top 5 goalies in the league.

I knew this was coming. I really don't like ranking things, but here goes:

1. Luongo
2. Brodeur
3. Nabokov
4. Giguere
5. Lundqvist

Yes I left off Kiprusoff, mainly because his numbers this season are sub-par up to his standards. I know he's a horse and if it makes anyone feel better (MikeH), I had him in my top 5 until I looked at his stats. The first 2 are really interchangeable to me. I think at times Lundqvist plays as well as any 'tender in the league, but has lacked an overall consistency to hold up for an entire season. Still he's a 2 time Vezina finalist, he puts up above average numbers every year and that's really enough to convince me he's a top 5 goalie in this league.

Kipper:
33-20-10 W-L-OTL
.906 save percentage
2.68 GAA (1594 saves in 1760 shots)
2 shutouts

Hank:
30-21-7 W-L-OTL
.908
2.35 GAA (1350 saves in 1487 shots)
8 shutouts

Comparable numbers for the two. Hank has definitely had the better year, but Kipper has seen steady improvement in his numbers since December. Hank on the other hand has been inconsistent, as you mentioned. Two stellar months, then two poor months, and then another great month. Push comes to shove, I think both are top 5 goalies and we are just seeing a down year for each.

This can be said about Kipper as well. Except, he's a 3 time Vezina finalist and has won it once. Oh and the fact that Kipper holds the modern day record for GAA doesn't hurt his case.

For most other goalies, a year like the one Kipper is having would eliminate him from this top 5 discussion. But, because of his history and potential to absolutely steal a game, I cannot drop him out of the top 5.

Back on topic though, Hank played awesome tonight. A great sign for Ranger fans.

History is certainly on Kipper's side, and I must admit I felt a little dirty about not including him. All things considered, he probably is a top 5 goalie but it was hard to leave any of those guys off my list. This is why I don't like doing lists, but I guess we can both take solace in the fact that both our goalies are pretty dang good.

well, if Brodeur was better than Lundqvist, you think he would be better than 0 - 6 against him.

Lundqvist has given up 5 goals in those 6 games for what it's worth.

That's five goals including both shootouts.

just saying, brodeur had shootout chances as well as regulation chances, and hasn't been able to match the king.

And It's not like the Rangers are some dynamo. I think they have 1 power play goal in the last 40 years

10th shutout for the King tonight. He won't win, but I think he's done enough to earn a 3rd straight Vezina nomination.
