On the one hand I can't say I believe in the Devils' Cup chances yet, but on the other hand there just aren't a lot of elite teams in the East or really in the NHL. Other than Detroit there is no real elite team out West. Ottawa should be an elite team but something's gone really wrong out there. The Rangers (gasp) are the closest thing to an elite team in the East right now but they're far from unbeatable.

But the Devils' play since getting Langs and White back has been encouraging. Marty has picked it up, partly because the D has picked it up and partly because he just seems to need 8-10 games every year (since the lockout) to really get into gear. Elias still concerns me, I think the team needs him to be a 30-goal scorer to really have a good team, right now he looks like an assist machine since the move to C but his goalscoring touch got left in 2005.

Elias in OT on the night they give Langenbrunner the C!!!

8 straight!!!

 My boy is back! 8)

And not just cause of the two goals either, he's had a couple of similar games earlier, as off as he's been for most of the season. But if you listened to him in the postgame interview, he had his swagger back. People ripped Sutter's handling of him earlier in the year (and I did think he went too far at times) but now he's playing with a chip on his shoulder.

Not that I didn't think he was trying before...but he does tend to get down on himself sometimes.

Make that 9 in a row with a 3-2 win over the Caps.

Last 9 starts for Brodeur: 9 wins, 14 goals against

Sunday's game should be interesting.

After a very lackluster beginning, the Devils really seem to be getting on track.

I don't think it is a coincidence that this run pretty much started when Langs came back. Good move by the Devils making him captain.

I will be seeing them tonight here in Carolina. Should be fun, eventhough Carolina is very outmanned at the moment.

Nice win for the Devils tonight against the decimated 'Canes...

Since getting white-washed by the Vancouver Canucks the Devils have won 7 of 9, with one of the losses coming with Weekes in net.

Eight in a row, as in eight losses to the two NY teams

I'm having very serious Met flashbacks now. The Devils with the Isles and Rangers are like the Mets with the Phillies and Nationals. Like the Mets the Devils retain first place in spite of not being able to beat rivals. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite the Devils like it did the Mets.
