We're nearly half way into the season and if it ended today, every team in the Atlantic would be in the playoffs. Is this the best division in all of sports?

Maybe, but I'd still give the edge to the NFC East in football. Not only did every team finish .500 or above (and you've had three different champions the last three years) but the rivalries are the best in sports in that every single team despises every other team (you don't find that in any other division in all of american sports, yes Rangers-Islanders, Flyers-Devils, Rangers-Devils, and Penguins-Flyers are all great rivalries, but stuff like Rangers-Penguins doesn't exactly get anybody's blood boiling).

I think it has to do more with the lack of quality hockey teams in the East.

What? Who's so great in the West that you can make that claim about the East? Outside of the Red Wings, the Stars, and maybe the Cannucks and Sharks I can't say there are too many teams that particularly impress me in the other conference. Also, the West contains probably the four worst teams in the league besides the dreadful Lightning (the gutted Preds, always awful Coyotes, once again disappointing Oilers, and those LA Kings).

If anything, the East is better/more competitive than the West. Nobody's been able to completely run over a weak division like the Red Wings have, even the Sens have had a rough time against the other good teams in the East. Parity doesn't necessarily mean a lack of quality. Every team in the Atlantic plus the Sens, the Canadiens, the Hurricanes, even the Bruins and Sabres can be considered potential Stanley Cup contenders. There are many many more teams that already look pretty dead in the water, even if they make the playoffs, in the west.

Just my two cents of course...

The West's record vs. the East:
41-25-4

I wasn't just saying it as a fan of West Coast hockey.

Yet the Red Wings are 6-7-2 when playing divisional foes. I think you are underestimating the rest of that division.

Ehh. Don't agree with you there. Red Wings, Stars, Canucks, Flames, Sharks, Wild, Avalanche, and Ducks all have a decent chance at representing the West. Red Wings would be the clear favorite, but that is a testament to how strong they are, not how weak the rest of the conference is.
