With the infusion of some great talent over the last couple years, it is not always known who some of the very players are, unless you are immersed in the game. Thus I decided to put together my list of the top 15 forwards as well as a seperate thread for the top 10 Dman. Again this is my list, so encourage you to add/remove some names so we can all discuss.

Top forwards:
1- Alex Ovechkin
2- Sidney Crosby
3- Vinny Lecavalier
4- Joe Thorton
5- Jerome Inginla
6- Evgeni Malkin
7- Henrik Zetterberg
8- Ilya Kovalchuk
9- Marian Gaborik
10- Danial Alfredsson
11- Rick Nash
12- Simon Gagne
13- Eric Staal
14- Dany Heatley
15- Pavel Datsyuk

Honorable mentions: Olli Jokinen, Jason Spezza, Mike Ribeiro, Marc Savard, Anze Kopitar, Scott Gomez, Daniel Sedin, Ryan Getzlaf, Martin St. Louis, and Zach Parise.

Discuss!!!

Good list. I'm a little iffy on Gagne being up there and I think Nash should be a little higher. Another honorable mention would be Jeff Carter, who has clearly become the best player on the Flyers IMO. If we're going by just this year, maybe Alex Kovalev also makes the list.

If healthy, Gagne certainly belongs, his problem has been health (concussion). I considered Carter, but I would like to see one more year out of him before I put him on the list. I do think that after Malkin, a lot of the names are interchangeble. Kovalev has been mediocre in 3 of the last 4 years, thus I cannot put him on the list. He is however enjoying a renaissance in his career this year.

Other players of consideration are Paul Stastny, Henrik Sedin, Shane Doan, Marian Hossa, Tomas Vanek, and Rod Brind'amour.

Mike Richards has something to say about that. A much better all round player than Carter, although both will be all-stars during their career.

Wow. I forgot how many good forwards there are in the league. Many of these guys are interchangeable on any given night.

The Only one that is galaring to me is NOT including Gaborik on the list. IMO, he is one of the most overlooked forwards in the league due to teh type of style the Wild play.

Definitely underrated, but I can't put him over any of the guys on my list. If my list was a top 16, then he might be the 16th.
