Is it really possible I could suffer through TWO collapses in one year? The magic number for the Devils to clinch a playoff spot is three, seemingly has been that for a week. The Caps (currently in ninth) have a weak schedule down the stretch, and the other teams in the playoffs have been winning enough to catch us with a couple of losses, some already have.

I just can't believe it's even possible I might be in for this AGAIN  And there are scary similarities, like the Mets, the Devils can't beat their division rivals and it cost them first place. They seemingly invent ways to lose to the Rangers like the Mets invented ways to lose to the Phillies. And all those dang losses to the Isles are like the Mets' losses to the Nationals.

Although at this point I honestly don't know what's worse, missing the playoffs entirely or making the playoffs and going 0-12 against the Rangers

No, the Devils can't be compared to the Mets.

People actually go to Mets games.

Maybe the Rangers are just a better team? I realize that 4 of the games have been 1 goal games, 2 of which went to a shootout, but how about a little credit to the Blueshirts? A month ago you likened a five goal Ranger collapse to the Met meltdown of last year, now this. How's that for karma?

Very frustrating, but we Devils fans have had it pretty easy over the past decade or so. I'm not really concerned just yet, but it certainly is a bad time to have the club's longest losing streak since 2000 (hard to believe they have gone that long without losing 5 games in a row). Now, should they lose to the Flyers tonight I'd get a little worried. They have won 11 consecutive games against the Flyers in NJ.

We'll see what happens...

Maybe Lou will be behind the bench in a few days...

Not exactly, what I said was that blowing the five goal lead was like a lot of Met losses last year - which is factually accurate with all the four and five-run leads we blew. I didn't think the Rangers would miss the playoffs anyway, too much talent (though I usually said that in the years before the lockout too ).

And they are better than the Devils. I acknowledge that even though the Devis are like 10 points better than the Rangers in games not involving head-to-head :P Not so much better that they should be 7-0 though. There has been some luck in there too, three of the wins came in the four-on-four OT and shootout, and this one came after a freak goal.

The two games against the Flyers could be the saving grace, but we are 15-1 against them the last couple years, we're bound to lose one sooner or later. If it's tonight hoo boy.

The thing I would worry most about if I were a Devils fan is the fact that Brodeur's been great against the Rangers and have still come up on the short side seven times because of their biggest flaw: the inability to score. I agree that the 7-0 record can be a bit deceiving and there is a certain amount of luck involved but good teams make their own breaks, which is something you, as a Devils fan, can agree with. Having said all of that, it's nice to see the tables turned for once.

Well, I think it's pretty clear we were comparing the wrong team to last year's Mets.

I feel for ya', Carolina.

Carolina is San Diego, with Washington being Colorado. Unfortunately, the Mets are in a class all their own.
