Where everybody congratulates the Stanley Cup champs in the most half-hearted way before making their pick.

Oilers are taking Taylor Hall and the Bruins (who made out like bandits with that Kessel trade) are allegedly taking Tyler Seguin. After that, it's open season.

You forgot to thank Los Angeles for their hospitality. :)

I caught some of the picks in the 1st round, but I did not hear anyone congratulate the Blackhawks. Did anyone say it, because they usually all do?

Yeah I did not hear a single shout-out to the Blackhawks (strange since it had been so long since their last Cup and I thought they were a generally likable team aside from Kane). I do remember some shout-outs to LA, however.

I thought the Rangers could have traded down for their pick and there seems to be consensus that McIlrath was a bit of a reach but I think he could easily become a fan favorite.

Isles were bold. Kabanov, if signed and the operative world is 'IF', can at the very least provide some entertainment value with his behavior. But he does indeed have all the talent to be a player and is definitely a good risk pick. Nino was also a bold pick. Brock Nelson could be an interesting player, and seems to have a good background, the gene pool, playing in a hockey rich state as an amateur, and going to UND.

Merrill for the Devils seems like a safe pick. Going to Michigan which has its share of Devils draftees. But I am more interested in Joe Faust becoming a good player because that jersey will be a hot ticket if he makes a name for himself in the Devils uniform.
