McKnight's showing couldn't have gone much better from the Jets pov.

They rested Tomlinson and added another option, especially if someone gets banged up mid-game.

Looking ahead, it means they don't have an urgency to add any new backs for 2011, which will make it easier to manage the cap with all the other people they have to pay.

And the 2 new pass rushers and at least 1 new safety they need to bring in.

Pretty nice play last night. Maybe the versatility thing is real? Maybe we have good coaches?

I think we can put to rest any questions about how good an athlete this guy is.

Anytime you see a guy in the NFL or NBA and his athletic ability stands out from the other players on the field, that's really impressive. McKnight is one of those guys.

I still don't know if he's more than gadget player/returner at this point though.

In space, he's quick and has great straight line speed. But he gets tentative around contact and you would THINK that with the offense sputtering like it has, they could work him into the offensive game plans a bit. I know he grabbed two catches last night, but those weren't real impact plays. One was a dump into the flat, and the other one was the benefit of Sanchez having 10 seconds in the pocket before he needed to make a throw.

I don't dispute anything you say, but it's pretty valuable to have one player who's a threat to go the distance on any kick return and who can catch passes and play as an extra DB in special packages.

That kind of player gives you a chance to keep less versatile guys who are strong in one area.

I don't know if anyone ever watched Arena Football, but McKnight reminds me of the guys who star in that as two-way players, except he's an NFL-level talent.

I like McKnight for what he is right now; a good special teams player who has enough versatility to also be used in offensive and defensive packages. The more Greene struggles and LT shows his age, the more I'd like to see McKnight as a RB. I mean, there really isn't another option anyway, unless you want to throw the rookie Bilal Powell into the fire.

McKnight is a Pro Bowl alternate as a kick returner. For what it's worth, he won the fan voting.

I don't much stock in that stuff, but it's pretty good for a guy who had one foot out the door in his first pro camp 16 months ago.
