New year, new transactions thread for the minors.

Per BA:

Quote:

We knew about the signings...

Leduc posted a 5.84 ERA in 2011 between 25 games with Brooklyn and Savannah
Tovar, 23, came out of the pen for 21 games with Brooklyn, posting 3.09 ERA.
Moreno, in 96 ABs for Kingsport hit .260, playing first and catch
Valdez hit just .133 for Brooklyn last year
JB Brown played 2B in 32 games for 3 levels in 2011, hitting .198 between Brooklyn, Savannah, and St. Lucie
Butler, a utility guy for Savannah, hit .205 in 83 ABs
Brown, an outfielder for Kingsport and Brooklyn hit just .147 in 34 Brooklyn ABs
Soto, a guy Ive always liked, hit .221 in 95 ABs in the GCL

I was always fascinated by the fact that Soto was 147 pounds when he signed as a 16 year old and he didn't gain a pound over the next 6 years.

He also spent the winter hitting cleanup in the Liga Paralela, which pretty much tells you all you need to know about that league....

I was slightly surprised last year that after having a pretty strong 2010 in Brooklyn, although he was old for the league, that J.B. Brown didn't break camp with a full-season team. St. Lucie had Sandoval and Bouchard to begin the year, although Brown went there when Bouchard got hurt. I was also surprised, that when Shields was promoted to St Lucie, that Brown didn't get the opportunity to start consistently over Nieves in Savannah.

At the end of the day, no loss to the system, but was slightly surprised in his lack of chances.

Freshest Minor league moves...per BA

Quote:
New York Mets
Signed: RHP Miguel Batista (re-signed), RHP Fernando Cabrera, SS Sean Kazmar
Released: LHP Casey Fossum, 2B Donnie Tabb
Removed from 40-man: LHP Danny Ray Herrera (outrighted to Triple-A)

Thought Fossum retired or something last year....

and Tabb is released after 2 years with the GCL. The 21 year old from the 43rd round in 2010 hit .228 in 114 ABs for the GCL Mets over 2 years.

I believe Fossum took a leave of absence from the team last season, which probably gave off the impression he retired.

Sand Gnats send Charley Thurber to DL, retroactive to April 7th. Right Oblique Strain

Looks like it.

Also: may be the last we see of Charlie Thurber: Full Season Ball Player.

Thanks for the Memories, Chuck.

DRH banged up at Buffalo, Brad Holt gets the promotion. One tough outing of 3 so far but continues to miss bats at a rate way beyond what he was doing as a starter. Like this promotion a lot - Buffalo has nothing in the way of RH setup relief. It's Cabrera, the lefties and essentially 3 long relief/white flag righties( although Jack Egbert has surprisingly been effective as a reliever so far).

Love Holt being moved up. Might as well find out if he'll need protection next year on the 40.

I'm trying to figure out the BMets roster.

As far as I can tell, they've had 2 guys moved up to Buffalo (Raul Reyes, Brad Holt) since the start of the year, haven't had anybody replace them on their roster, yet are still at 24 and appear to be in proper balance.

I was about to say they must be playing very shorthanded (especially if Dykstra and Marte are out for any period of time), but it appears they're just down Dykstra right now (and I assume a roster move is coming there before today's game).

How can this be? What did I miss?

I believe Cohoon started the season inactive and was activated when Reyes moved up. AA rosters may have expanded to 25 active players the same way AAA did this season because I believe they had 25 active players until Holt's promotion.
