The Mets offer Ross the chance to finally brawl with Mike Pelfrey.

#mets expect bounce back from torres and arent sure ross fits (i.e. he wont work for nothing). #redsox, others more likely

This is like, literally (not the incorrect use of literally when something is figurative...this is the true sense of the word), the easiest story to report on EVAH.

This is more reasonable writing...

Its also incredibly obvious and common sense passed off as insider knowledge.

I won't jump the gun on this til Ross signs his deal with the Sox that we all who read this story initially on Saturday said he eventually would, but its pretty easy to break down the genesis of a rumor involving the Mets these days. Could get yourself a decent paying job it seems just by putting out a series of logical tweets.

Cody Ross fits the Sox profile for players...too much sense for it not to happen. They need an outfield bat.

I cannot confirm nor deny any said implication in my observation...

Jerry Crasnick believes a Ross deal with Boston would be in the $2.5M-$3M range. RT @rubyhillsales: @AdamRubinESPN ur guess on yrs and $ is?

Big tumble down from those 3 year/$21m demand.

Really hard for Ross to not be worth that and more. Of course, really hard for the Mets to be able to spend extravagantly like that. Rubin guesses the Mets offer was likely for less than $1m, a truly strong push indeed.

Eh, I don't think it's a big deal. I warmed up to the idea of signing him but he still wasn't an ideal fit here with Hairston on board. I don't mind seeing what Loewen or Baxter could do in 5th outfielder role. At least there is sort of that "upside" factor at play, like Loewen becoming our 2007/2008 version of Rick Ankiel.

Just don't sign the 2012 version of Rick Ankiel (oof).

Its not a big deal, just a further indictment of the times.

Said from the beginning there was almost no chance of this making it through the "Mets rumor test".

Still, I wonder what it would have cost to sign Ross instead of Hairston. Gotta admit, that's a pretty big upgrade for the team and as a potential mid-season trade.

Not sure what Ross' contract ends up being, but if there's just a few hundred thousand difference between him and Hairston - I'd call that a mistake. If Ross would have cost 3 million . . . then maybe not.

(edit - either didn't see, or posted this around the same time as the post above) - never mind.

The Red Sox have "made some progress" with Ross, a team source tells Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

This is going to be the most anti-climatic signing.
