If I am being so ridiculous why is this the case? We've already agreed outside of Montero, Ackley and Franklin the Mariners don't have much young offensive talent so where is this disparity coming from...?
Because the 2012 Mets, however bad they may be (I see 75-80 wins) are still FAR better than the 2012 Mariners (60ish wins). Their amazing, gaudy prospects better pan out or else their 60 win team won't be going anywhere anytime soon. At least we have some production on the MLB level with Ike, Duda, and Murph to go along with Wright, Tejada, and Thole. Guys like Smoak and Ackley haven't really proven much, despite their upside, Montero should be good but it remains to be seen how he hits out there.
How is Ackley less proven than Duda? 90 big league games with a 117 OPS+ and was the #12 prospect in baseball last year after being drafted #2 overall. Which team in baseball bets on Duda's career the next 10 years over Ackley? Duda has played 39 more games in the bigs. Ackley is a plus offensive 2b and likely future all-star at the position. The Mets would trade Duda for Ackley in a millisecond and would trade Murphy+Duda for Montero if they had anywhere to play him/believed like the Mariners he could stay behind the dish.
Duda 100 games in 2011- 0.9 WAR Ackley 90 games in 2011- 2.7 WAR
That's why I mentioned Ackley. I think he'll be an above average+ 2b, but he still had a .766 OPS in his stint last season. Duda OPS'd .957 as a starter. Regardless, my point was that the Mets overall have better talent offensively than the Mariners...and it's not very close.

I shouldn't have brought it up LOL.
Lets all agree: Chone Figgins leading off is an awesomely bad thing to happen to some other team, and its not us, and we should be happy for that.
Bill Madden weeps somewhere.
Are we sure that Figgins would not be batting leadoff if he was on the Mets instead of Torres? I am only "pretty sure."
I'm not sure at all, honestly.
This is something that seems reserved for the Mets universe recently, and yet its actually occuring elsewhere. Figgins was apparently under consideration in the "Winter of Bay" (as I like to call it) at least at some point, and he might be hitting leadoff here if one thing or another broke a different way, and yet he's not, and the Mariners appear unwilling to just call a spade a spade there (as we've been so whiny about the Mets not being willing to do in the past) and we get to just point and laugh. At someone else. Which is nice, I think.

Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Mets are among six teams Scott Kazmir is considering, and he could make a decision sometime in next few days.
Of course, apparently we didn't go watch him in Houston.
New cost-cutting measure: no need to scout? Make moves solely on "gut feel"?

I'm going to go with the local beat guy reports over Buster.
Would be funny if he signed with the Mets without them sending anyone though.

Rubin now reports that the reunion is a "very real possibility." Certainly could be just backing up his colleague's report, but Rubin is usually good about not rumor-mongering.
This would be funny. Maybe they asked Scott to send a flipcam video of his workout afterwards? Telecommuting FTW!
ESPN's Buster Olney reports the Mets are one of six finalists for Kazmir's services, and there's a very real possibility he ends up in Flushing.
He didn't really with Crasnick on the Cody Ross stuff, IIRC. I think he linked to Crasnick's tweet but then followed up on the story that he didn't really fit the Mets' needs or pricerange.

How many teams can say they are getting a Scott Kazmir back?

Patrick Flood went on a pretty funny rant yesterday on the Mets defense and TC oddly declaring Justin Turner the backup 1B.
Patrick Flood @PatrickJFlood Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Terry Collins day 1 camp: "Who here has played first base before? You all go work at short. Everyone else, we're taking grounders at first."
Patrick Flood @PatrickJFlood Reply Retweet Favorite · Open The 2012 New York Mets: First basemen playing every position but first base.
Patrick Flood @PatrickJFlood Reply Retweet Favorite · Open I get the "get the other 1B reps at their (non-first-base) positions" aspect. Still seems silly that team with three 1B needs another 1B.
Patrick Flood @PatrickJFlood Reply Retweet Favorite · Open For Turner as backup 1B . . . If you have Justin Turner and Daniel Murphy on the field at the same time, why would Turner play first?
Patrick Flood @PatrickJFlood Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Basically, why would you play two players out of position, instead of no players out of position?
And then he retweeted this one, which made me laugh:
Jon Presser @metsjetsnets88 Reply Retweet Favorite · Open @PatrickJFlood day 2 of collins camp: killing two birds with one stone. all non-first basemen bunt towards the first basemen for 7 hours

Add him to Sandy Minayason's growing list.
"No team can say they added more talent than we did this offseason if we pretend like DW, Johan and Kazmir are the DW, Johan and Kazmir of 2007."

Kazmir will make sense once the Mets announce the new team doctor is Dr. Emmett Brown.
