Wait, what? Byrdak is changing his delivery? Sorry, been out of the loop today, but it sounds like an awful idea.

Must be Warthen's idea. :D

Quote:
Traditionally, Byrdak's arm slot tends to creep up throughout Spring Training as he begins building arm strength. To combat that this year, the lefty specialist is starting lower than ever so that when his arm angle does begin elevating, it will not creep up to an extreme overhand slot.

"I know it's going to go up," Byrdak said. "So if I go a little bit lower and I come up, I'm right where I want to be."

This is one of those things where if Warthen was let go in the offseason, we'd be giving huge credit to the new guy who spotted a way to make BYRDMAN better against righties.

I just think BYRDMAN has been watching some Clay Rapada footage and thought to himself, "How can I get that awesome?"

(BTW, not to kill your point, but wouldn't dropping down make him even LESS effective vs. RHB?)

Looking at Michael Baron's photos on Metsblog, we have some monstrous pitchers in camp.

Fernando Cabrera, Jeurys Familia, Jon Rauch, Frank Francisco, Armando Rodriguez are all very intimidating in photographs.

I'm just pointing out that if there were a new pitching coach, lots of folks would immediately assume that Warthen was a clown and that this new guy (or girl!) was a genius.

I was going to post the Pedro Beato picture with the byline: Mets Already Throwing In The Towel, but I thought that would have been mean....

Probably, but one of TC's more impressive managerial doings last season was his great handling of Byrdak; of the total batters he faced, about 65% were lefties.

This wasn't really meant to be a serious debate. See above - playing simply off perception of Warthen.
