No clue what he is trying to prove here. I am not an Alderson-ite per se, but I think the fan-base's enmity is placed pretty logically. I would imagine there is a level of understanding about Alderson's position.

This is why Alderson’s goodwill clock is ticking. Fans and media will not put off indefinitely how long he has to author a product that will defy that shrinking payroll. While the anger is raw against ownership, I sense fatigue setting in on this soap opera. Fans are trying to recondition muscles of optimism associated with this time of year.
Alderson needs progress. In wins. In growth of players. In unmistakable earmarks of a better tomorrow coming, well, a lot closer to tomorrow than a few years down the road.
And this is absolutely enervating...wouldn't hold-overs be less insulting and more accurate...?

Pretty ridiculous. I'm the first to say I think they could have been a bit more "original" this off-season but the fans aren't turning on Alderson anytime soon. They realize the ownership situation is the issue.

I don't think he's saying the fans are starting to turn On SandyCo, nor is he callig for his ousting.
I think he is, correctly, pointing out that Sandy has enjoyed a "no Pressure to perform" free ride type of introductory period that front office folks in this market are almost NEVER afforded. At some point, he and his high priced cronies have to start giving you some ROI. And while I'm not a Sherman fan usually, I TOTALLY agree.
If the idea was that there is nothing anyone can do under these circumstances as GM the. Why in the world do we have one of the most expensive FO teams in the game? We should have hired Rick Hahn and let him tread water for a few years if that was the job description.
Sherman isnt sayin Alderson needs to deliver a championship: he's saying he needs to deliver progress and a clear path back to contending. Saying "everybody just be patient" while he makes a series of moves designed only to deliver a few marginal wins in the near term, as has been the case mostly in his tenure to date, simply isn't enough.
Nobody put pressure on the performance on the field because the money they were tied up with in addition to the limited resources made it that way.
Is this FO really that expensive? The spin has always been that Selig foisted Alderson upon the Wilpons and brought his guys in. Usually our front office is derided as the smarty pants guys because there are three name-recognized guys that is a rarity for a front office with possible exception to the Red Sox, Dodgers, and Yankees.
And his tenure has just been a full-season. Premature all around to say it is marginal gains at the most or no progress or whatever. Everybody's tenure cannot be judged in a year.... unless it is Jim Duquette.

I don't have a quarrel with a lot of what Sherman wrote.
We're a long way from people calling for Sandy's head, but I think you can see some unrest among people who are hard-core, loyal Mets fans.
If I had to predict what would win over a lot of NYFS folks would be for a couple of Sandy's picks last year to look like future stars and/or him having a good draft.
Say Brandon Nimmo becoming seen as a top prospect industry-wide, or someone they got overslot being seen as a steal.
The WFAN caller-types, I can't predict.

the WFAN callers would have wanted Frank Cashen fired after 1981......that about sums them up nicely.

Well on that one point I agree. Sandy has had 2 off-seasons and the one player he has added that may be part of our future when we are "good" outside of the draft is Wheeler.

He was also saddled with 7 undesirable contracts (not my opinion necessarily) that he had to unload before doing anything.
--Beltran - no one knew Beltran was going to explode (Sandy lucked out) --Santana --Bay --Wright --Frankie --Perez --Castillo
Did people expect to get Bryce Harper, Wheeler, Pomeranz and such for those guys? And the desirable youngsters there is no reason to move (Murphy, Duda, Niese, Ike, Parnell, Pelfrey)
The only things he could have done a bit differently: --Moved Dickey, Pelfrey, Murphy for some future pieces --Traded Reyes at his peak value --Traded Hairston, Byrdak adn such in July last year. --Pursued Grandal and other younger types this winter (maybe the deals weren't there)

I thought there was some measure of creativity by Sandy in the Pagan-Torres/Ramirez deal.
Having the revamped bullpen emerge to perform the way some of the recent no-name Padre pens would be a huge plus and Ramirez could be the kind of guy who helps that happen.
But if Torres continues on his 2011 path, Ramirez is just another reliever and Pagan flourishes in SF, Sandy's going to catch some heat.

The Giants have provided nearly all of Sandy's highlights, for sure. The Pagan deal, whether it works or not, was a great deal. Two slots filled for one slot opened...the mistake may have been signing Rauch as well, but we'll see about that.
Beltran for Wheeler was about the best we could do.
Had he traded Reyes for Bourjos and Juan Segura, the media would have been demanding an extension.
