Good for Josh, bad for the Mets.

Remember that game that everyone said Stinson should be the closer?
That was fun.
Question is who gets the trip up to Buffalo to replace him? Money is on either Mulvey or Brad Holt, who I have a feeling will be almost an exact duplicate of what Stinson would've been. Mostly fastball, not good enough K:BB spread, but young and live-ish arm. I was encouraged by Holt's K rate increase after the move to the pen, but not allowing myself to get sucked into small sample size noise.

The roster put out by Rubin had 25 guys including Stinson, but no Herrera. Assuming Herrera didn't ask for and wasn't granted his release, it could be no one. Otherwise, my bet would be Mulvey or Edgar Ramirez.

It did have Stevens and Hampson on it, though, and we know those guys were left behind. Could've been specifically for use in yesterday's game, but with the Buffalo team workouts yesterday, I'd guess there was a reason those 2 were hanging around St. Lucie.

In a show that others didn't necessarily see Stinson as the golden arm we somehow overlooked, the Brewers will option him to Double-A to pitch out of that bullpen.
This appears to be simply a claim out of the convenience of having 40 man room for a youngish arm that can hit 95 and be stashed in the minors with no real expectations. It was a convenience we didn't have, with the makeup of our 40man roster.

Yeah, this seems pretty accurate.
I forget how the waivers work. I believe at this time of year it's based on record from last season, but I forget if it's all NL teams first, then all AL, or if it alternates, or if it's mixed together...
At worst, I believe this means he went unclaimed by the first 13 NL teams that had a chance to claim him (only the Phillies had a better record than the Brewers last year). At best, he went unclaimed by all 26 up until the Brewers (only the Phils and Yanks had a better record). Either way, it seems like the Front Office had a pretty good feel for the situation. I mean, I guess I'd rather they had DFA'd Carrasco, but it's hard to get worked up over losing Stinson.

I don't think you can DFA someone on the DL, so I don't think Carrasco was an option. I probably would have chosen either Lutz or Satin because I don't think there will ever be room for both of them on the roster.
Does the DFA of Stinson with Carrasco and Beato on the DL make Hefner/Schwinden the call up if a righty reliever is needed?

Not a super huge deal - but losing a youngish arm that can hit mid 90s with a somewhat promising secondary pitch... not a good idea for a club in rebuild mode.
