I'm concerned about Leathersich now. That's much, much lower velocity then we have been told he normally has.

He's got to be doing something well to K six of ten. Could also be a slow gun.

Toby is there. Said he wasn't throwing hard. He also said he's compared the gun so far this year and at MOST it's 1 mph slow. Doing something well is one thing but if he's 88-89 and was 94-95 last year it's a major concern. You don't drop off 5-6 mph by design. Not when you dominated last year.

I meant more appearance wise.

Most every scouting report I read said low 90s, and if he's going out to throw three innings, it's not going play up. Sure, it's a little slow and you'd like to see it a bit faster, but it's early, it's cold, and he's striking everyone out, so I wouldn't worry much at this point.

Did we ever find out if St. Lucie is sticking with Gonzalez German starting and Taylor Whitenton in the bullpen?

The scouting report on Leathersich was that he was 88-92 as a SP. So for the first game of the spring, 88-91 is about right. In Brooklyn he was working 1-2 inning stints, while still getting several days off between appearances. I don't think there's any doubt he can dial it up to 93-95 for an inning as a pen arm.

Ceciliani's picture makes him seem wider than I remember him.

He's listed at 6'1 220 so he's not a small kid. He was listed at 185 when we took him. I'm not sure I believe he's gained 35 pounds since 2009 without the Mets being upset about it. Then again he WAS 19 when we picked him.

New Kirk?

More Eric Byrnes I believe.

Not even close. Ceciliani was compared to Ellsbury when drafted, and IIRC they even hail from the same town in Oregon (Madras or something).

At the minor league level, Byrnes actually had really good BB and K rates, though he was also older compared to DC at the same levels.

Byrnes
22 - A-/A+ - 34 BB to 31 K
23 - A+/AA - 75 BB to 69 K
24 - AA/AAA - 74 BB to 68 K

In the majors his career BB% of 7.2% isn't dreadful, which is about what DC had in his first two minor league seasons (7.4% and 7.9%)...though it's probably not fair to compare what a player did in the majors to what a teenager did in the low-minors.

Well if you read the whole thread I was talking about appearance and nothing else.
