After games like this, hard to imagine a Mets world without Wright, even if it "makes sense" or whatever the hell.

Not to be a downer but you can't look at it that way. You have to look at it as... will Wright be a good investment at MAJOR money at age 34-35-36. I don't have the answer for that but 6 games from Wright doesn't answer it either.

Teams still more often than not make the long-term investment knowing full-well there is going to be a drop-off in production if there has not already been at the time of the deal. See Jeter, Derek.
The only team who has been willing to part with major cogs, face of the franchise guys are the Red Sox and that was an exception given that bridges were being burned and they had 2, 3 other guys already rising in popularity to take over the role of the Nomars and Mannys.

A's had no trouble dumping cogs. Of course, since 2006 the A's have been irrelevant. Than again, so have the Mets.
As for Wright - each fan has their own opinion...and each is entitled to it regardless of condescending nonsense stating otherwise. This team can be built into a winner with or without David...as long as the front office shows some saavy, patience and makes sound decisions. So far so good for the front office...now David has to do his part. If he plays well this year, and the team plays above expectations, I expect to see him back next year with an extension in hand.

It annoyed me a little bit how giddy Cohen seemed over that number line. I know he was happy for Ruben but it is a little too early to do it as just a WFAN caller (Francesa would give you the handwave) but especially for the leading PBP guy.

Now in no way do I think the SNY crew is a mouthpiece for the organization (in fact, they go through pains to make it clear they are not with those lousy SNY shows of hot air) but it seemed a bit curious that Burkhardt, Gary, and Ron were all taking about Wright's leadership and a possible captainship. The latter seems like something that would be announced in conjunction with the announcement of him getting an extension.

I just want to enjoy seeing one of my all-time favorite Mets go from being expected to hit the DL to having a great game that same day, leading a win over our archenemy on a beautiful April day.
I'll worry about the other stuff some other day. Not to mention the fact that what I think about David Wright's future will have absolutely no bearing on how his future actually turns out.

If he hits like vintage Wright and stays healthy, I might be willing to take that risk. If he's 2009-2010 Wright, I probably say no.
