I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure most had him at least somewhere in their rankings, which, for a kid who made his professional debut last summer in the DSL, is probably where he should've been.

Although I guess if he does explode this year, credit to MLB.com and Jonathon Mayo for having him as the Mets' 10th ranked prospect heading into the year, which most thought was way too aggressive.

Also, the guys at AA have been on Montero since last year.

The pitching depth that we have really excites me. Bats are much eaiser to find and if some of these guys come through and they live up to their potential it would make this rebuild a lot smoother. I don't remember having this many SP's with potentital upside as a #1/2 in the system ever.

I too am excited about the pitching but I dont agree about how easy it is to find bats. This is oft repeated but not really true. Good bats are very hard to find ( go look at the contracts good hitters get and how bad next years FA market is). The mets have to find more than a few bats in the draft/ ifs because it is so thin down there. We can point to the 2010 Giants all we want but they are the exception not the rule. Bats are less likely to have career altering/ ending injuries. Teams more and more are locking up their good young bats before teams get a shot at them.

In a year or two, as the pitchers continue to progress through the system, we could package a few for a cost controlled young hitter.

Don't get me wrong we absolutely need to bring in more bats into the system but as a NY team we should be able to find that 1 extra big bat that would maybe put us over the top. Teams in general are locking up all their young players earlier but we should be able to out spend someone in the future if we really need to.

Yes. 1 superstar bat changes the entire lineup. Can't disagree there. Just very hard to find and will be nearly impossible via FA unless Sandy changes his stance on 7 year deals. A true superstar bat nowadays gets 7-10 years

I'd be calling about Belt every single day and while I love Murphy's bat I think he'd be a great fit with the Giants who have an opening at 2b. Duda/Kirk/Belt yes please.
