DENVER -- The microscope has focused more sharply on rehabbing pitcher Chris Young this week, now that Mike Pelfrey is almost certainly headed for season-ending elbow surgery. Young has been facing live batters in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and according to manager Terry Collins, could be ready to join New York's rotation by mid- to late-May.

I'm glad this move has a chance to work out. Young has some gas in the tank if he can get fuel to his arm...he's a saavy pitcher. I like those kind of guys.

I don't like to be negative, but I'm not going to hold my breath on this one.

He's better than nothing as far as depth is concerned, but yeah, it's a fool's errand to count on him contributing anything. It would be a bit of a surprise if he even turned up 'ready' to go, let alone lasting more than a handful of starts (plus, there's no guarantee he's any good even if he does stay healthy).

Neither am I. I bet he joins the team in Mid May and then goes on the DL in Mid June giving Harvey and Familia another month in the minors before they are called up.

I don't think we'll see him until late May at the earliest, but agree with the buffer.

Per Rubin, Chris Young "sat" at 85 in the intrasquad game (assume that, since it comes from team reports, it was probably more like 82-83, hit 85 a few times) and is NOT going to begin game assignments yet as originally was rumored.
His velocity over 4 starts was around 85 (which translates to around 87 with his late release point). I'd imagine a few more weeks of throwing free and easy would be a good idea...
The fact that he is pitching one year after surgery is pretty impressive. No need to hurry him.
