Wright is going to fall down a lot but you have to be very, very encouraged by what he's shown. His plate discipline looks vintage Wright.

That's by far the biggest thing for me. I'd be perfectly happy if he only hit twenty homers but hit for his old average with his old ratios.

16 BB and 11 K for Wright through 19 games. Very encouraging.

So Rockies fans were seriously chanting, "We Want Wright!!!!" Excellent, they follow Troy Renck speculation reports like a silly puppy and do the wave in the middle of their franchise's greatest player tying the game.

This team just seems to have a looseness and fight in them that they seem to have lacked in recent years. No matter how this season turns out, it is a team I, and I feel most of the fans, can get behind. I hope when we are competitive next year and the year after, we have most of this core, whether they (Kirk, Reuben, Duda) develop into above average starters/role players or bench players. I believe they are a big reason for this fight; they are young and have a flair to them. They are almost like those Phils teams in 2005/2006 before they caught fire combined with the Mets' decline. Both teams had young players and vets contributing while possessing a bit of "arrogance," while still lacking a few key cogs.

Baxter bringing some Whitestone Cowboy realness and Murphy looks like somebody out of Stardust Casino in Vegas. Ike seems most natural and I assume it is because he lived in Arizona.

Few thoughts on this game/weekend, which I've spent largely away from a computer, which has been nice:

- I got on him in spring and early this yr because of his seemingly "small ball w/slugger K's" offensive approach, but Mike Baxter, who I'm keenly aware will not continue to hit .400 as a pinch hitter, might just be a good little bench guy. Can run much better than anyone else on tis bench, I guess except Valdy for now, and now the he appears to be setting in, the ABs appear to be more geared toward that contact, short-stroke approach you thought he had. Hasn't swung and missed much lately and he's been able to put pitches to all fields, hard, lately. So mea culpa on writing him off quickly - he probably is very well suited to his role despite the punch and Judy swing.

- Easy to pile on now, but yeah, if we have limited dollars to spend in the future, let's not aggressively attack the middle of the relief market with all we have. Frank Frank won't be this bad all yr, and Rauch won't be this good. But one of my issues it's Frank Frak was that he wasn't distinctive special. He's a fine, middle of the road, good but not stand-out special velocity reliever. Prone to the same bad stretches that most middle if he road relievers are. The problem is, with Parnell likely not an option at this point, and still appearing to be he high-hit, high-K anomaly that he's been, there's really nothing that makes me think one of the current crop represents a better closing option. While the bullpen was "improved" i the sense that we entered this spring with 6 pretty decidedly "major league calibre" relievers guaranteed, it's a decidedly mediocre-throughout crew. Which is fine, but there was probably a better way to assemble a similar calibre group and still have other cash left over.

- however, with all that said, was convinced twice that this was going to be a heartbreaking loss, and they never gave up that KO blow, regardless of the clear momentum shifts. And that was pretty cool, and regardless of whether it's sustainable or not, I don't think anyone had this team playing .600 ball as the calendar turns to May. I'm enjoying this team immensely and hopefully it keeps up for as long as possible.

Yeah MJ, even as early as the 5th inning, I thought to myself that this had the feel of one of those games where you let the other team off the hook, stay ahead the whole game, then lose it in the 9th. So when Helton hit that HR, I was not feeling too confident. In fact, until Hairston caught the final out, I would've guessed we lost this game. I'm glad the guys on the field have more faith in themselves than I do!

I know its very early, but 21 games into the season the mets are keeping pace in the division.

What are the chances Edgin and/or Elvin Ramirez force their way in to the big club's bullpen at some point this season???
