The Mets are fairly confident that Ruben Tejada, who is headed for an MRI, strained his right quad. If that is the case, Tejada is DL-bound. David Lennon of Newsday speculates that the Mets could promote Jordany Valdespin, who was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo Saturday, to replace Tejada on the roster if the the shortstop hits the shelf. Tejada left Sunday's game in the fourth inning after stumbling and falling face-first into first base. In addition to the MRI on his quad, he will have his eye examined. That too, but really, with late-career Maddux were you more concerned about his pitch count or his performance? If he was cruising through seven you wouldn't pull him just because he's thrown 110 pitches.
Late career Maddux would get pulled after like 75 pitches.
And I think people always think that Dickey should throw a lot of pitches because he's a knuckleballer. However, from what I've seen he almost always noticeably wears down after 100 pitches. Need to remember that he may be throwing knuckleballs but he throws them max-effort at like 75 mph.
This is true, but you'd pull him because of performance, not because you were worried about him throwing too many pitches.
No, I mean if he had thrown 6 shutout innings with like 75-80 pitches he would get pulled. I distinctly remember having him in some fantasy leagues and being amazed at how he would get through 6 or 7 innings with 65-80 pitches.
