Johnson might be the best reliever we have.

Hey, a strikeout! Jon Rauch doesn't know what those are.

Phillies have won 6 straight. Mets suddenly not far from being out of last; a half game.

Kevin Millwood, of all pitchers, has a no-hitter going in the 6th at Coors. Yeah, at Coors.

Edit: and there it goes.

Rob Johnson generated more swinging strikes tonight than Robert Carson (1). He also threw more offspeed pitches for a strike (1).

Poor Verlander:(

I don't remember the '04 draft. Was Verlander priced out of our range? It's rough to think we were 1 pick away from Bruce and Verlander. What a different team it would be. Oh, well. If ifs and buts were candy and knots....you know the rest.

Verlander was off the board.

I should have worded better. I knew he was off one spot before us but did the Mets actually have a chance at signing him if they had taken him?

I hate to rage against the machine, but Niese has gotta be the most frustrating guy on the staff...yeah, I know, pick your reliever, but Niese has got good stuff but never seems to be able to put it together from start to start.

terrible...

Not the most impressive debut inning but count me "in" for Carson. Can't teach consistent 96, especially from the left side.

The off speed stuff lags but that's special velocity. I like it- lets make something of it.

We've heard whispers of this in the past, mostly from Andy Martino, but now a quote from Warthen about Niese's work ethic:

Quote:
"He’s had a couple of poor games against teams he doesn’t know very well,” Warthen told Puma. “A couple of us talked to him the other day and told him he could do a little bit better with the studying of hitters.”
