People aren't randomly "complaining". Professional baseball is about production not prospect status or what the fans want. These guys aren't performing.
But they do tend to fall in love with the shiny new toy, and tend to fall out of love almost as quickly.
Ike Davis has been the worst player in baseball this year, WAR-wise.
That argument has merit in its own right, but its not applicable here. People are actually discussing sending Ike down for JASON BAY, to give you context.

Ike's hit .100 over the past 7 games, which covered the news that Cut-and-Paste hit .124 over the same span.
Once you cross Ike off the list they'll turn to fresh meat.

And if Kirk continues to not hit, why not send him down?

I'm not sure how this is an argument against the demotion of Ike, considering his year long problems and the need to clear a roster spot in about a week's time.
Once people start complaining about Duda or Cut-and-Paste, you swap them.
Rinse.
Repeat.
You know, I know you're putting this out there in a negative way, but I don't really see a problem with it, so long as you're giving guys ample time to work through slumps. The process stops once a guy takes a job and runs with it, but if each of the guys ended up spending a month or two in the minors, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Disappointing, sure, but I don't see the value in keeping a guy who is totally lost at the major league level when you could send him down to work through his problems. For me, this isn't even about the Mets improving the team at this point, it's about getting one of our best young players back to the point where he can contribute something on the field.

And again, is only being discussed because Bay is going to be back.
I doubt this is being discussed/considered if the plan was to drop Ike to Buffalo so that Rottino's hot AAA bat could get in this lineup at 1B, ala Brian Daubach years ago.
Baxter should be getting more ABs as it is, so I see no problem filling the void if Ike goes down. And with Bay coming back, it gives even more options.

If we were putting the most productive team on the field, I am not sure Duda, Torres or Kirk should be playing...they each have .025+ OPS points lower than the likes of Tejada, Hairston and Bay.
And not sure where getting Turner more playing time makes sense; he's been worse than Ike.
I completely understand sending down Ike to work on stuff, and he has been horrific, but lets not think that Duda, Torres, Nieuwenhuis or even Daniel "high average, low leverage" Murphy have been exactly ripping it.
I think that is what Nitey is saying...the enmity will move on to one of the other non-productive entities.

I just want us to move away from all the position swapping. Whatever they do they should leave Duda in RF and Murphy at 2b.
And play Justin Turner everyday at 1B while Bay takes most of Kirk's LF time?
Doesn't make sense to me.
makes more sense then moving Duda all overthe field. presumably he's moving back to RF once Ike comes back up. if that's the case, it's better to leave him in RF. he needs all the reps he can get out there.
The Mr Potato Head approach to lineups of just putting people wherever we want has got to end. It's not something that should ever make sense.
