I LIKE!
6'01" 185lbs DOB: 08/24/91Welch is one of the more intriguing prospects in the Draft. His fastball sits in the mid 90s, and he also has a hard slider. He has excellent command of both pitches and rarely walks a batter. However, Welch is not the biggest guy in the world, leading some scouts to think he will be a reliever at the next level. Either way, Welch's aggressive nature and pure stuff are what will get him drafted.

Yeah that report put a big smile on my face.
If he can start and add another pitch, possible #2-#3?

This looks like a nice pick. Was ranked 135th by Baseball America.

He's a strike-thrower," said Forbes. "He doesn't walk anybody."
"I'm just trying to go right after the hitters all the time, being aggressive, being a bulldog on the mound, basically," said Welch.
That mindset, along with his skill set, has major league scouts drooling.
"His first start of the year, we had a handful of scouts at the game and his velocity was in the mid-90's and, you know, just showed excellent athletic ability on the mound and excellent arm action, and ever since then, every Major League team has sent in all their national cross-checkers and scouting supervisors, what not, and he hasn't disappointed them," said Forbes.

I said that if we went college arms, I'd prefer big power arms with questionable secondaries to counteract the pitchability group we took last year.
Its only been two guys, but they seem to fit that. Both get the "reliever" tag precisely for the reason I state above, but at least with this guy, I'd hope you start him until he proves he can't.
Frankie Piliere: Mets take Brandon Welch. Superb pick. Nasty stuff in JUCO. 92-94, feel for breaking ball. Lots of scouts raving about him this spring.
Here we go. Could start and probably will for us to begin with. Stuff may really play up in relief role.
Was an OF in high school and sounds like he is new to pitching.
