Thus a rehab contract...

As far as 2013, if the lineup was...
Nieuwenhuis-LF
Tejada-SS
Wright-3B
Duda-RF
Davis-1B
den Dekker-CF
Valdespin/Havens-2B
Thole-C
Santana, Dickey, Harvey, Niese, Mejia/Familia

That is a team that I, as a card-carrying PLW would have fun rooting for...almost exclusively home-grown

The Wilpons would be pleased at the price as well. If Upton displaced one of the guys, it would add a righty bat, but whatever...not sure there is anything on the market this year that would intrigue me to the point I'd ignore anyone from our system.

Anybody have any thoughts on the RH power hitting C/1B mime Napoli as a possible FA acquisition? Like I said before, lot could happen between now and then, but if he was available, what do you guys think? Too expensive, too old at 31 yrs old next season, not interested in what he brings to the table? Whatcha got?

MDD and Kirk in CF and LF should be able to cover enough ground to make up for Duda's lack of range. Duda's less-than-stellar is easier to swallow if he produces like he has over the last two seasons. In 163 games (so right at a full season's worth of at-bats) he's got 30 doubles, 20 HR, 90 RBI, .280 average with a decent amount of walks...not All-Star material offensively but good enough.

I think Davis' bat will come around, eventually. Maybe not this year but I don't think he is going to hit below .200 for the rest of his career.

I don't know why having those four as starters is a bad thing or is a reason to believe the team couldn't contend and succeed. If they suppose to be the team's "stars" then yes, that's a problem, but have them be the supporting cast for Wright + another "star" with some good pitching (Dickey, Santana, maybe Niese, Wheeler and Harvey?) and that's a good ball club.

The guy I've really soured on is Murphy.

With those three across the OF and Ike at first where do you fit this other "star" to go with Wright?

What we'd have is a perfectly average line-up if all goes well. I agree with Nitey in that one of Kirk or MDD could start for a good team, but not both of them together. Need a bigger bat from one of those spots.

Tom,
That's the "problem" with the Kirk/MDD/Duda OF.... where are you adding a big offensive player when you are "locked in" at 3b, 1b, SS and 3 OF spots? You aren't finding a "star" catcher and the 2b market is absolutely awful this year (and doesn't have a ton of "star" level producers as it is. Odds are if you want a big time offensive player added it will come at the expense of MDD or Kirk not being regulars on the team.

Mets might want to consider trading Kirk *or* MDD to a team with a similar log-jam of 2B/SS or C prospects. Might be able to do a mutually beneficial deal with equal risk.

I think Davis or Duda will be moved this winter anyhow.

In theory the Blue Jays would be a good fit for that with Arencibia, d'Arnaud, Perez (the guy I would target) but the idea loses steam when you see they already have Gose and Marisnick as potential CF's and both have much bigger upside than either of our guys.

Even ignoring the PR... the guy has a career .744 OPS in now his 7th season, career high in homers is 21 (has averaged 16 over a full season) and doesn't walk.

Not saying I want Young, but aren't you the guy that LOOOOOOOVES BJ Upton and his .732 OPS (.757 career)? I don't get it.

CF vs. corner outfield. Upton also steals a ton.

I know this guy hasn't lived up to hype and has been in trouble off the field. But delmon young has power is young was a first pick in the draft.

I remember the talented Hamilton going through same thing, not saying they are same player, not saying that at all but he is RH

I think you're onto what they should be thinking but picked the wrong guy. DY has had plenty of time to show what he's capable of and has been a huge dissapointment.

But someone like say, Cris Carter, whatever happened to him?. No, not the former Met but the power hitting OF that was a big prospect a few years ago. Last I remember he was in the A's system but haven't looked into what he's been doing.

That's the type of player they should be looking to acquire if they aren't going to spend on a big bat. They should be looking to find a young talented kid that has has struggled and may need a change of scenery like when the Reds took a shot on Brandon Phillips when he couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag in Cleveland.

This was what I thought Sandy and Co where going to do and why I loved the hire(s)..

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?
