A three-run Aderlin Rodriguez home run in the sixth inning put the Gnats up 5-2 in the sixth, but Logan Verrett and the bullpen could not hold it as the RiverDogs scored six runs in their final two turns at bat. Since May 1, the 20-year old has hit .298/.368/.524 in one of the toughest leagues to hit for power anywhere.

Any chance they move Aderlin up to St. Lucie? It's really difficult to get an idea of how good he really is playing at a park/league that is so skewed against power hitters

I get the idea that he's really good.

I'm sure he'll be there soon enough. Only real potential "bopper" in the system in my view.

AND HE'S RIGHT HANDED!!!!

Disclaimer: He has severe reverse-splits. Doesn't actually help that he's right handed.

Honest question.... are there many guys in baseball who mash like-handed pitchers but never are able to conquer the reverse? aka.... righties who mash righties but can't hit lefties? I can't think of any.

I'm guessing Justin Turner doesn't count due to the fact that he simply hits RHP better...but falls short of the "mash" criterion?

I mean more... are there examples of guys who have hit their like-handed pitcher at a high level but can't hit the reverse very well? One would think IF Aderlin can smoke righties, he'd eventually but able to hit lefties right? I don't recall ever seeing a scouting report on a good RH hitter that said "hits righties well but struggles vs. lefties".

It might just be a sample size issue. For example, Adrian Beltre is absolutely mashing RHP this season (1.008 OPS), and looks feeble against LHP (.641 OPS). But for his career, he hits LHP better.

I've heard that there are less lefties in the minors and in amateur ball (thus why being left handed increases your chances of getting drafted). As such, I've Heard the argument that guys in the lower levels of the minors typically don't see as many lefties, so those kind of reverse splits are fairly common, due to lack of exposure. Again, from what I've heard, generally these reverse splits are mitigated as a guy moves up the ladder and sees more left handers, though they often struggle at first. I don't have any articles or anything to back this up, but I've definitely encountered the argument before (possibly/probably from Sickels).

Ah, that makes a lot of sense, thanks
