I wonder if the Twins would be leery of taking our prospects after what they got for Johan.
Eh, they knew they were getting a poor haul for Johan, but he basically refused to go anywhere but the Mets. I don't think they helped matters by immediately slotting Gomez into an everyday job, either. Also, they couldn't be expecting much of a package this time anyway, considering his contract status and performance.

I'm sorry, trading for a guy with an ERA over 5 in 3 of the last 4 seasons does not color me excited. NO TO Liriano.
There is a reason nearly a dozen teams in baseball have already either expressed interest or are known to have sent scouts to see him pitch. He's still missing bats, he's 28 years old, considers Santana to be his idol/mentor and his fb velocity is 92.8 this year, 92.6 for his career. This is the kind of guy you roll the dice on and potentially hit a HR. Liriano can also be used as a reliever if need be. Wouldn't shock me at all if Liriano ends up a top MLB closer if a team goes to go that route.

Ollie was a great bargain in 2006 (helping us late in the season and in the post season) and 2007. The bad part was giving him that deal prior to the 2009 season with the red flags from the 2008 season which wasn't that bad but had strong signs that he hadn't completely turned the corner.
Plus I feel there is less risk and chance for higher reward here.

The fact that Santana had such an impact on Liriano and the stuff is still there makes me more than intrigued. This should be very low risk and has potential for major pay off.
