Jose Leger wouldn't be a bad choice either.

I think Geren would be the favorite though given his experience.

The Wilpons have an odd sentimental streak that typically misses the mark. For that reason I don't rule out David Wright as next year's manager.

Wright as a player manager where he occasionally pinch hits would be awesome

Our generations Gil Hodges

So a 24 man roster? Sounds about right for the Mets

Those are the exact only two that would interest me. Anyone else would likely be a Geren-TC type.

Both of those guys are top notch humans. Rojas has done quite a job at Bingo.

Why is that? I really have no idea why that would be the case other than he's a long time fan favorite.

I like those two as well but I'm not sure why you're insinuating that Geren is like TC. They're extremely different types. Geren is a lot closer to Lopez than he is to Collins in terms of philosophy.

It wouldn't actually be the worst idea in the world, especially relative to the other no-names Sandy would inevitably hire. I don't know how feasible it is to expect even a smart guy like DW to be able to transition right away though. How many of the successful player-managers do it right away? Joe Torre did but he wasn't exactly that great as a manager here.

Ehhh no, you're playing with a 24.5 man roster at best, if that. And not getting any salary relief for his contract that way.

Geren is a bit more stat driven, but tends to over manage...

I think Wright would be a great manager. Probably a few years too soon.
