Sid Fernandez was always the guy who they said in Spring Training, "Wow can you believe how good Sid looks?" Until later on during the year when he gained all his weight back and then some. Of course Sid had some dominant years so it was ok. Dom has to put up some pretty darn good numbers if he's going to be a weight yo-yo

I know I'm fat, and I know I have to eat less, and eat better.

Do I? Nope.

Is there a history of high blood pressure/cholesterol/diabetes in my family? Yep.

Do I eat better? Nope.

Am I heading for disaster? Probably.

Do I eat better? Nope.

Is this a good thing? Nope.

It's easier said than done?

It's easier done if you make an effort

Not to turn the thread from Dom to me, but yeah, I know. And I know I should.

My apologies. I read quickly and took your post as a "what Dom's doing" kind of thing.

I'm certainly no one to tell another poster how to eat or stay in shape.

Even though I am overweight I do feel ok telling a young athlete that they should change their habits for the better of their career.

I kinda meant "I know these things, but bad food tastes so much more satisfying than good food and discipline is hard."

I think there are definitely some American cultural health norms that are not good that become engrained and are difficult to counteract, so I definitely see Dom as needing some help in that area.

Sometimes the right person has the right impact and we cannot do it ourselves.

I need to quit smoking badly. The right button hasn't been pushed yet (and I hope I quit before the wrong button is pushed)

I hear ya there. My dad had a pain pill addiction. But like many addicts after kicking one habit, he picked up smoking. Well, he tried and failed many times to quit. Finally, a massive heart attack put him in ICU for a week. After that, never another cigarette. Granted, the fact that the withdrawal probably passed while he was sedated and the fact my mom would have probably killed her herself had he picked on up definitely helped.

Maybe a full year with an MLB training and strength team (no jokes about the Mets history here) will help him. It cannot all come down to that but the access to healthier food is definitely more readily available at the big league level than minors, even for a millionaire.

He's also young. That personal accountability might not be totally there yet. As Tej pointed out, the "bad" food often tastes better and is often the easiest choice, if not the correct one. I feel like that's where the team will miss a Grandy a lot as he is one of the hardest working guys in the game. Same with Wright.

Not sure if you've tried it, but the only thing that's helped me are those calorie counting apps like myfitnesspal. It turned it into a game/challenge for me. I could eat stuff I liked, but it would hurt what I could eat later in the day, etc.

I was never huge, or anything, so that made it easier, but I did lose almost 30 lbs over 6 months or so.
