Not sure if this is a fan site or not but they are predicting Jarred Kelenic, a lefty hitting High school OF from Wisconsin

http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft

And here is a BBA article about him:

http://www.baseballamerica.com/area-code-baseball/kelenic-making-name-known-2018-class/#fB3HuvKKlXRtYgpM.97

And from another site:
Quote:
Latest Showcase Report
2017 National Showcase Jun 16, 2017
PG Grade: 10
Jarred Kelenic is a 2018 OF/LHP with a 6-1 196 lb. frame from Waukesha, WI who attends Waukesha West HS. Very strong athletic build. 6.57 runner, has centerfield range and speed with a high level right field throwing arm, makes accurate throws with very good carry, highest level defensive outfielder. Left handed hitter, hits from a spread stance, excellent raw bat speed with a low tension swing and loose hands, ball flies off the barrel, big power when he turns on the ball but will let it travel and drive it up the gaps as well. Advanced player with all the tools, plays hard. Good student, verbal commitment to Louisville. Selected for the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic.

You know I really feel like Peter Alonso is a better prospect than Dom Smith. He just seems more of an all around hitter than Smith. Though he really needs to clean up those errors he made at 1b this year.

I'm wondering if Phill Evans is eligible?
Not that I'm voting for him at #1.
But I do think he could be in the top 10 at this point.
Might even make my top 5.

I went with Peterson

He comes into the system with a pretty high floor

And I think he has a higher ceiling than most people give him credit for

did BA do a top 20 for the appy league yet?

I'm wondering where Vientos lands on that list

I'm torn between him and Gimenez for 2nd pick

Evans is eligible and has now been nominated. He will replace the winner of this poll (presumably Gimenez).

We're essentially right back where we were after 2010.

Awesome. Good job all around.

It's really not the same thing. The 2010 team had no young tallent on the roster and several bad contracts like Johan, Bay, Ollie, K-Rod

The 2017 team has young talent in Conforto, Rosario, Thor, Dom, maybe Nimmo, deGrom locked up for a few years and really just 2 bad contracts, Wright & Cespedes, and if Cespedes would stay healthy, his contract isn't so bad.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

Well hey now hindsight!!

23 yr old 1st rounder Ike Davis was at 1B.
24 year old Lucas Duda made his debut in September.
How about those 27 year olds at SS and 3B? Think they were decent.
Believe we had a pair of 20 year olds ranked (I think) 1 and 2 in the system debut late that season in Tejada and Fernando.
Seem to remember most liking 23 year old Josh Thole setting himself up for a long run behind the plate (certainly looked better prepared at that time than 27 year old TdA does now).

Average age of the 2010 team was 28.3. Average age of the 2017 team was 29.0.

Don't forget Reese Havens, Cesar Puello and Wilmer Flores

Ike - yes.
Wright - he was a little bit older but yes.
Reyes - no. He was a year away from free agency. (shoulda been traded).
Duda wasn't considered a prospect until 2011. Some fans might have liked him but he wasn't a great prospect.
Nobody had Josh Thole ranked high - I remember cause I liked him, but as a prospect he was never even Kevin Plawecki.
But I'll give you Fernando.

I respect trying to undo any revisionism, that's always a good approach. I'm also not going to go into details cause it would get long and drawn out, but I think this team is in better shape than 2010. 2010 had more aging talent, like Dickey's break out year & Beltran and they'd drafted Matt Harvey, so . . . maybe, but I still think 2017 there's a lot more upside than 2010 and I think 2018 will be a much stronger season (knock on wood - stay healthy) than 2011 was. I think 2018 will have a lot more talent on the roster than 2011 did.

You forgot the most debated kid that season, the 20 year old Mejia who was either going to be King Felix or Mo Rivera

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?
