Alonso next, Puck, Dunn, and Lindsay the next three in any order. Any amount of upside is valuable in this system.

Rutherford may have gotten babiped after the trade. And in Florial's case his babip was over 400 all season and also K'd over 30% of his PAs. I'm sure he's still a good prospect, but his numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

Just from the top 50 on here:

Two years ago
Matz
Lugo
Reynolds
Akeel Morris (traded)
Verrett (traded)
Wotell (traded)
Dario Alvarez (traded)
Garcia (released)

This year
Gsellman
Ynoa (traded)
Rosario
Dom Smith
Nimmo
TJ Rivera
Smoker
Flexen
Sewald

Of those 17 guys, 10 or 11 will likely be on the 25 man most or part of the year in 2018. A few more on other teams, likely.

Is that really so impressive? The Yankees have Judge, Bird, Gardner, Severino, Sanchez, Betances, Frazier, Warren, Romine + Robertson/Kahnle who came through their system AND an absolutely LOADED farm and that's with trading for a #2 SP in Gray and the Frazier/Robertson/Kahnle deal.

BA gave a very tepid review and had him #18 in the SAL so I have to believe it goes beyond bad luck/numbers.

Warren (New London): Is it safe to assume that Moniak and Rutherford will fall out of the BA top 100 after going 17 and 18 here?

J.J. Cooper: Going to be some interesting discussions we’ll be having on those two. It was there first full seasons, but neither showed the impact with the bat scouts wanted to see. I’d say Rutherford’s struggles are a little more concerning in the long-term because he’s older than Moniak and he’s less likely to be able to play CF which means he’ll have more expectations placed on the bat. Next year is big for both of them.

I find it very hard to believe his average/BABIP is what they are judging here. Clearly the scouts they spoke to weren't that impressed.

Always fun when the "best" guys come with "gained a ton of weight and was awful at 1b", "Out for 2018", "88-92 and shoulder soreness" and "Meh year, hurt again, poor reports" weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I still believe in Rutherford in the long term. But naturally the Yankees were less high on him than some had him otherwise they wouldn't have given him up.

I don't understand the Peterson pick at 1 or 2. He's thrown like 5 innings of professional ball and doesn't really have stand out stuff. Gimenez, Vientos and Alonso are the clear top three right now (whatever way you want to rank them).

I'm not super enthused about picking guys who are going to have to get traded to a different in order to play.

Some of those Mets names are impressive, yes. And those Yankees are impressive thanks to an incredible market for back-end relievers in 2016 (and a handful of other deals) while the Mets got caught trading off pieces in a huge buyers market. I'm not saying the Mets compare favorably, but they spent the last few years trading away and promoting their top talent, while the Yankees were not in the same position.

Speaking of Gabby Ynoa:

Wound up with a 4.15 ERA in his 34 MLB innings this year, and while was awful first half in AAA, seemed to really put it together in the 2nd half, with a 2.87 ERA post the ASB and a 44/7 K/BB in 53 innings.

Too bad he was out of options...err...due a big arb raise...err...not named Erik Goeddel and therefore he had to go. With Flexen, Gsellman and Montero here, though, guess we don't need him.

Which of those Mets names are "impressive"? Gsellman had an awful year to the point we don't know what he is. Rosario is inarguably a top prospect, Smith looked horrid, we shall see. The rest are all filler or "if they somehow are healthy maybe they can be good" like Matz/Lugo etc, Nimmo looks "solid". That's a very unimpressive group to be citing why the farm system is horrendous. Forget the Yankees for a second, the Mets have an AWFUL farm system AND had an awful year. The Mets have had unusual high level promotions that other teams haven't experienced? How can they both be horrible in the bigs but also have tons of "impressive" promotions? And "trading away"... Michael Fulmer is the only "big" prospect the Mets have traded in recent history. This idea they "went for it" and didn't come through just isn't based in reality. Had they kept Fulmer almost no chance Cespedes is here. Who are these other prospects they traded away? Dilson Herrera who has been awful and injured? If anything it's unbelievable how few prospects they have traded and picks they have lost to be in such dire straits.

Yeah, you're not wrong. Still, I think Alonso's bat will render the concerns about his defense fairly inconsequential, and Puck would probably be #1 in the system right now had he not gotten hurt. I'm worried about Dunn and Linsday, but there's still more to dream on there than on the Guillormes, Nidos, and Flexens of the world.
