It wouldn't surprise me at all if Sandy's approach is to wait out the market and try to add a few bargains. And personally, with a 20 million dollar budget, I might do the same thing.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

All joking aside, this might be a year where he should make one move early to get a buzz going with the new manager...not saying I want him, but Cosart might be the guy that might offer some value this year.

The markets will be interesting this year.

I think you're correct, but the move is probably with the Marlins to bring Gordon here. If I had my druthers, I move just a bit north of Miami and see what it would take to make Julio Teheran a Met.

I could get behind that move easily.

I read he wants to still play SS. If he changes that mindset I can see the Mets offering a ,3/39 deal

Get him for one IF spot, and Nunez for the other. Cabrera can back up all three spots and start a couple times a week. Then we'll be able to hit.

You missed a bunch here on the "snark" calendar.

There's a point in November when plans are "leaked" that are ambitious - too ambitious to be true, really, but everyone starts saying "Oh, this is a REALLY important offseason and they understand that."

Then there's that 3 day stretch at the beginning of December where everybody goes nuts about Rule 5 protections, and Sandy is either a genius or an idiot based on where Nabil Crismatt gets added.

Then there's the winter meetings which begin the walking back of expectations. They were ready to make deals, but deals didn't present themselves. Also, the asking price on free agents is RIDICULOUS, evidenced by this one deal that people didn't like.

Then we get to the holidays, and after the holidays, the bargains will start emerging.

Then its after MLK day.

Then its February 1.

But by then, there's nobody left who really deserves a guaranteed contract, so further signings will be limited to camp invites.

No camp invites are given.

Finally we get to P&C's, and we applaud the fact that once again, we did not give out any "bad" contracts, the market just didn't come together for any trades, and we like the "flexibility" of not having tied ourselves into too many guaranteed contracts, so that Ben Rowen has a chance to emerge into that pen. Spoiler: he doesn't.

Ah, I love the smell of optimism at the outset of the offseason.

make a big move early? Apparently our farm system is so bad we couldn't even land Gordon if we tried.

(So says Jason Martinez)
